Banks Installed, Now I've Got Questions

Hey Guys,

I need some help here.

I picked up the Banks Monster kit and put it on today, and the only words I can say about it are, Holy Flying ^(*$%)$%_ Batman, it ROCKS!!!!

Now for the Q's...

1) Do I really need the so-called heat shield that came with it?

2) I disconnected the negative battery cable when I did the install. The first observation about the truck with the Banks, I immediatley noticed the truck is a lil' sluggish off the line, but it really opens up quickly once you get above 3,000 rpms. I know some have said they notice a loss at bottom-end with the Banks. But could it be caused by the truck adjusting to the new exhaust. Also, could it be from having the battery disconnected-kind of like an ECU reset?
3) I bolted mine on-no welding. Should I go back in a few days and retighten? I imgaine it may settle, shift, or who knows what for a few days.

4) I noticed some condensation dripping by the muffler. Would that be a sign of a leak, possibly? I got down and listened to the truck very closely and couldn't hear anything that sounded like a leak.

BTW-I think the Banks is almost quiter than stock when it's idling, or coasting to a stop. It's almost erie-ly quiet. But get it above 3,000rpm's and EVERYONE knows you're coming!!!

The truck is defintely not the same truck anymore!!! I LOVE IT!!!

Being that you have a 4X4 yes you should install the heat shield. Going back to check the tightness of all the bolts wont hurt anything. As for loss of low end mine definately seems stronger down low after I installed my Banks.

A new member!!!

Welcome to the site!! And thanks for the info!

I did install the heat shield, but it seems kinds flimsy. I'll go back and resecre it.

So do you think the low-end loss could be due to the truck adjusting, or from disconnecting the battery?

Congrats with the new mod!!
I don't remember if you had the CAI, but your cat-back will work best with an improved intake and hopefully give you back that lost low end.

It took me longer than most, because my 9 yr old son wanted to help. Although I was excited to get it done, I couldn't pass up that opportunity.

It was really easy-just be aware of the hanger spacer they give you, and how it goes on. That was the only issue I had, but still easy.

Thanks!!!

I've only got 300 more mods to go to catch up to you!!!

I do not have a CAI. I wasn't planning on getting one, but if things don't change for the better in a short time, I may have to consider it. Darn, more mods, I really wanted to avoid that-NOT!!!

As mentioned, if you don't have a performance intake to go with the exhaust, you may notice some low-end loss. Also, how long did you disconn the battery? It takes up to 24hrs to reset the ecu doing it this way. Did you try the manual ecu reset?

All the dyno charts I've seen for intakes show a LOSS in low end torque, and a gain in HP above 2-3000 RPM.

Well, my truck is running much better today. I just put the exhaust on yesterday.
So I think there is some adjustment time. It is still a little slower, but more responsive than yesterday.
