After I put my Banks exhaust on, my truck was definatley not the same truck. But not in a good way, it was very sluggish and couldn't get out of its own way.
I figured the ECU needed to adjust to the new set-up/exhaust, but based on what others have said, I knew this could take a while-maybe a few weeks.
Well, I could take it anymore, so I tried the ECU Reset as described in Rocky Mtn's post. And it worked!!! It made a HUGE difference in the truck, immediately. I'm so glad I did the ECU Reset. The truck rocks now!
I guess its good to do this after every performance mod, and I can say, it really works!
BTW-It recommends using a watch to make sure the timing is right.
Well, I didn't, I actually just counted, and got it right-surprisingly. And if that weren't enough, both of my sons were in the back, fighting as only brothers can do. He touched me, dad, he looked my way...All while I'm counting...
That Banks definitely made a big difference, did an ECU reset after install. First two days was not that noticeable but this morning I punched it and can feel the difference.

I also installed the Banks system but did not disconnect the negative battery cable as described in the instrucions. Would this method be easier? If so, how long should I disconnect the cable?

The thing is no one know for sure, some say a few hours some say at least 24 hours. Even after that there's no way to confirmed that it's reset. So doing the reset procedure is best IMO. That way you know for sure it's been reseted.

I did the ECU reset today after a run to the dump then went down the road and did the reset didn't work like the steps say my CEL never went on steady just kep blinking my timing must have been off but I did here the throttle open and close and when I left it burned out very nicely I also tried the brake light disconnectors which worked til my slip light stayed on.

If you don't want to do the manual ecu reset method, then you'll need to disconn the neg battery term for at least 24 hrs to clear the ECU RAM.

Yes, the difference is noticable, huh? Sometimes I'm able to do the reset while counting in my head, but I have more consistent results using a stopwatch.
Also, you can do this reset any time your truck starts feeling sluggish again...it's not just for adding performance mods.

Thanks for the reseting advice. I just tried it, tried it several times, but it works. I just installed the Banks today along with the CST kit. Will have pix up tomorrow.
