one more problem I'm wondering about is in FourWheeler they said a bolt heads sheared off. That isn't supposed to happen with grade 8 bolts I don't think. And is that in the spider or Ring and Pinion? I'd really like to replace it with a grade 8 bolt to be safe...
I find it very hard to believe the ring bolts sheared, unless they were loose from the factory. Are they Grade 8? Usually higher then grade 8....

lol, I was hoping so... I figured if they were shearing they must not be. obvioulsy my main concern is to not have an unsafe truck. so if putting a locker in doesn't stop said bolt from shearing thats not what I need to get

Just so you know incase you didn't if you buy the tru trac your not getting a locker. Just a replacement unit limitd slip (limited grip ) diff. It may help some by putting equal pressure on the spider gears vs an open diff rear end but the problem still remains that the rear axle is a D44 and is still somewhat small axle for the weight and power of the titan. My TJ rubicon runs a D44 in the front and rear if you want a size comparison of the type of axle our trucks have vs other axles in vehicles. All this not matching gears makes me also wonder. Can they not match them due to the ring gear thickness and carrier vs how they shim. I bet it can be done. Im in the process of swapping my rubicon air lockers into a wagoneer 44 housing after being told it wouldn't work. You have to change the way it shims ( one shims inside the bearing caps and one on the outside) to the corresponding housing and I had to run an isuzu rodeo ring gear due to it runs a similar thick of the rubicon vs the standard waggy ring gear which is thinner. Food for thought

So we got a website or a phone number yet for this mechanical limited slip or locker. Anything is better then what we got, except an unnannied open rear I guess.

it's a Detroit TruTrac, I JUST talked to my good friend who blew his Eaton locker/lsd and said he now has a TruTrac and I take his work for it when he says it's strong.
Also the Powertrax says staight up to remove spider gears and there no slip rear diff replaces them. And it looks just like a detroit locker or LSD equivelent to me? I don't think electric lockers install in LSDs also? So I think I have an open rear with a locker and THAT is why the spider gears break new spiders in lockers and LSDs are supposedly stronger. Like Powertrax and their 67% stonger than Titanium claim on their site lol. But that one says slip the ring gear over it and put it in and yer off. Funny how they didn't mention shimming/measring clearances guess it's fine print somewhere. I emailed them to ask if they'll offer something for the titan.
I'll email Detroit and ask about the Tru Trac.

wouldn't a Tru Trac do the same thing as a true Detroit locker? It replaces the spider I believe? Thanks,
T
Yes they both replace the spider BUT A TruTrack as a limited slip and a Detroit Locker is just that, a locker. Under acceleration a Detroit locks the rear wheels. This is not good for snow or ice or even rain because it will make it much easier for the rear to fishtail or even swing around on you. Also when truning on pavement you can hear the tires chirp sometimes - in any case you will be wearing your tires faster! You will aslo need to learn how to corner with a locker, you will know it's there and will take some getting used to.
If you really want a true locker, I agree with a previous post, wait for an E-Locker to become available so you can disenguage it whenever you don't need it. Who knows, maybe ARB will come out with an air locker for the Titan. I have them in both diffs in my jeep and there awsome.

Remember though auto lockers are less noticeable with an auto tranny over a manual. I can make u turns in my tacoma with the detriot and never chirp a tire and it was a daily driver like that as well as a trail rg for 4 years. It does as mentioned recquire changing your driving habits in different conditions

I didn't say anywhere I wanted a TRUE LOCKER! I know the difference. I want LSD, I want to replace the stock spider with the stock E-Locker I have because that is part of where I believe broken rears in 05's are comming from and don't want to worry about it ever again! I thought I left enough info for people to get that allready lol.
I do NOT want a Locker! Now that we're passed that. I want to get the Tru Trac because I believe their Helical gears *spiders you were referring to I guess Josh* are going to last longer than my stock spider. Since people who've broken stock rears allready can say they broke upwards of FIVE of them. I know LSD doesn't lock and I don't want clicking/racheting around turns and clunking when it engauges again after the turn especially when flooring it out of a turn. I meant does the same thing as in replace the *stock* spider which is proven to break in my truck in my "abusive flooring an automatic, pathetic imo really" so I don't want to TOW with stock spider, downshift with stock spider, drive on steep grades with stock spider, or put pedal to the floor with the stock spider, or do ANY sort of Offroading if it breaks onroad I can only imagine.... I think it's a disgrace and I'M PISSED, my BRAND new TITAN is down for a month and I have NO truck to do the trucking Duties I bought it for. I can't give our horses water and resort to calling my buddies with Ford and Dodge's to drop water off since my newer truck is pathetic. My buddy with a 150 was in my truck when it broke. He didn't even know it was broke until I turned the radio down he though stuff was bouncing around in the bed. I knew because I could feel it through the pedal. It sucked azz. Hope no one ever has to feel that.
I've noticed the preload is way to tight from factory. I'm going to keep my stock spider incase I ever have a problem with the Detroit TruTrac LSD. Or if Nissan FINALLY fixes the problem with them breaking. IMO unless you neutral drop there isn't much else to do to "abuse" an automatic. Besides making jumps or something stupid to that nature. Everyone I talk to seems to think the same. fronts seem to be getting replaced also, as well as a first TT tranny now...
I REALLY liked this trucks power that is why I bought it. IF it can't handle it, it should be advertised as such. And it shouldn't have it. A Diesel buddy also reminded me, if it were weaker I wouldn't of bought it. Love the power but you can FI a Ford or Chevy and I believe some do without power train failures. Not that I need the power, I've been checking out cars all day and am considering a Chevy 1500 as I'm fairly sure it probably won't kill itself *if* I were to floor it. Unless someone looses a rear or something very similar on a brand new truck and had to give horses water without a truck and had their new truck down for a month, NO you don't know where I'm comming from. I get pissed everytime I think about it! And want to slap the guy who screwed up, and the people who can't fix my truck right away or get me a loaner truck. done with my rant for now....

Buying a GM product wont solve your issue. They have rear end and tranny problems. If your looking to avoid those issues based on daily experience buy the ford

I don't know about that. Mine was in the shop for two weeks, getting a new engine, after only 13 miles.
The only way to avoid problems with your vehicle is to quit driving and start walking...
I had a Detroit locker in my '89 4Runner with 5-speed manual tranny and thought it was fun! If my Titan was a 4x4 I wouldn't hesitate to throw one in it. Since its 4x2 I'd like to see an electric locker like the ECTED become available. A smooth, limited slip on the road and a full-on locker offroad. Can't beat that...
GM quit building trucks in 95. As far as I can tell everyone has there problems. Dodge can't make a transmission, ford can't build a transmission or a motor, I don't know what chevrolet is thinking ! A buddy of mine has an 04 z-71 and hates it. Fewer miles than my titan and it is falling apart. If I was going to get something other than a titan, I would have to go 3/4 ton. The ford 250's and bigger hold up very well b/c international builds the power stroke, dana builds the axels, NP builds the x-fer case, only thing ford about it is the body and trans which is it's weakness. If you take great care of the trans (auto) it will last nearly 150k. The manuel is great except for the 2 part cluch being a pain to change. Oh yah, a crew cab f-250 gets better MPG than the titan or any other 1/2 ton pu. I can't complain, I love my titan and get 16.5 MPG out of a 4x4 off road crew cab.

actually truck I want the most is either 250 or 350 diesel, standard, cc, front 60/40 or whatever its called where I can fold the counsol up for a seat like my titan. I'll just have to wait and see how the front diff holds up after I get the LSD I'm pretty sure the rear will be more stout. I do still want a 250 though and in many of my posts you'll probably see that lol. Not really considering automatic or gas ford. No real complaints about my focus but still I hear diesel is where those shine with the international PS's later

How do you feel a blown rear end through a drive by wire gas pedal (or any gas pedal for that matter) and a passenger doesn't feel it through the floorboards??
For someone who says they don't tow or race your truck you seem awfully consumed with having horse power. You also keep mentioning F2 & 350's which are in another category altogether than the Titan. Apples and oranges really. If that is what you truly want, quit complaning about the Titan and how it embarasses you around your friends and trade it while it is still worth something for the Chevy or the Ford.
