Hey, come on now, you need to narrow it down to a single part

I say broken teeth on the spider gears.

I'll tell ya right now - the spiders are definitely fcuked. I drove it to the dealership (in 4wd), and it didn't like turning.

Either the input pinion has separated from the input shaft, or the spiders are completely trashed, because in 2wd the driveshaft would just spin - no forward motion.

Austin- THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS. I'd say spider is shattered due to roll pin failure. I'll put a cold pack up say $12 for anyone who reaaaalllllyy wants to bet seriously though cold pack says roll pin and gears are SHATTERED.

I DIDN'T ask 4x4 shop owner again what the part number was today when I called. I know, I know, I need to kick me in the butt. I asked him how much would a 5" lift for a 250 be lol. 2200+tax installed not too bad. I checked with a ford diesel and they told me at the prices they're asking and blue book on my truck I'll be looking at $100 a month more for an extra year which sounds ok to me. BUT IF the TruTrac will work I won't really need to trade. Its scary if you are going down a steep grade 13,000ft above sea level to collect a truck bed full of snow and the rear goes... Brakes alone will not bring anyone safely down from there imo lol. Mauna Kea summit, took my fronty up like 10 times last year with snow piled higher than the cab brakes got ify on the last trip so I changed the front pads. Anyhow I WILL BITE MY OWN TOUNGUE, if I do not get you guys the part number for the LSD TOMORROW. OR at least ask the guy for it. Worked 3hrs OT til it was dark and I simply couldn't see what I was doing :P later.

Could be, but keep this in mind, the retaining pin for the cross shaft(the spyders ride on this shaft) doesn't see much load. The pin will shear for only 2 reasons:

1. The pin itself is defective in design, or manufacture.
2. The spyder gears are starting to lock up on the shaft, (maybe not enough clearence), and then they will start to spin the shaft promptly shearing the pin.
3. The pin falls out...people state it's a roll pin, most diffs use a pin that threads into the case...with Loctite.

why yes. yes it is. mauna kea, is the ONLY place in hawaii that snows and mauna loa. so tons of people go up an collect snow take it to their houses and beach to play with, as well as play up there in it. gets cold at 13,000ft covered in snow though elevation gets people sick too. Its 7:17am, I'll call the shop in a couple hours and get that part number I won't post it til I get home from work though...

I am going to bite the bullet and get the true trac installed....should be next week,,,,

it will run $ 682.00 installed......but it will be nice to get rid of the one tire frier.......and have a major part that should not fail...also i get to make sure all the settings will be right,, that should make me sleep better,,,,,

Right on, man...let us know how it goes. Is there any way you can take some pics during the install?? It would be nice to see some detail on this setup, as well as the old parts.

I'd love to do this someday, but since I have the 2.94's, I'll wait until we have some aftermarket R&P gears available, and do the gears and True Trac all at once. $682, installed, doesn't sound half bad to me for better performance and a nice little insurance policy, as well. The only issue would be factory warranty, since Nissan more than likely won't want to cover the diff should something fail. Worth the gamble imho. Thanks...

This is the limited slip? Will it work on my rear with the off-road package and can any garage install it?

Well i am a pretty good shade tree meckanik....

but there are some things i do not do...... setting up rear ends is one of them,,,,

i would not recomend this for a garage project unless you have lots of time,,, a good service manual and a selection of shims and dial-indicator's

it is a gear type limeted slip... no clutches....they have been around for years.. (originaly it was called a torrsen ..)

I wouldn't let just any garage work on my diffs. Find a shop who specializes in this type of work. This is a complicated install, and mistakes are made easily if you don't know what you're doing.

with all due respect brah (covers head ) it appears that it is really the lame stealership (or their ability to get parts 'over yonder' that is the problem). yes there is nothing more infuriating automotively (i know, i made that word up!) than to have you truck in the shop for more than a couple of days and to spend that much on a truck it shouldn't happen....but it does, for all the makes. your diff is covered under warrantee right? if it is then tell them to get your truck fixed!!!!! did i also hear that you don't have a loaner from them? that is inexcusable. if nothing else i would call niss. corporate and get some loaner money if the dealer won't do it. the truck has an issue--its not a lame truck, one of, if not the best--you just have an infuriating dealer. in other words if the dealer did you right and took care of it you would be ripping happily up the mountain right now--all under warrantee! by the way the report on the titan that showed it had issues was probably HEAVILY influenced by the brake judder returns....

if the titan will do the trick with the right diff then be happy and quit complaining and talking about the other trucks you want. if the T won't do it, (as it appears it probably won't if you're loooking at a different class of trucks---how big of a truck do you need to get snow!!! ) after you get the diff fixed under warrantee, sell it--you don't have to disclose any repairs you have done under warrantee because theoretically it should be back to 'new'--and look for a year or 2 old 2-350. i honestly don't think you will be happy in the long run with those trucks unless you are hauling things on a regular basis. ie--they are not designed nor 'fun' or very comfortable for a daily driver.

but hey, i'm jus a howlie from da mainland brah, wadda i know right!!!

ps--speaking of 'cold' i was up at haleakala a month ago--saw one of the most beautiful sunrises ever!!!
