Question Intake & Rain

Curious about this and thought I would ask.
What is the likely hood of introducing water into the engine while using the cone type filters (K&N, Volant, AFE, etc) that mount in the stock location? I notice that you remove the tube that goes into the fender when installing these, so what do you guys think?

Thanks,

No problems with the Volant and it's already been through one wet winter. That air box matches up with the fender air access.

Shouldn't be no problems, I have put intake in cars which sit much lower than the Titan and never had a water issues.

Well we just had some of the worst rain here for about 10 days and I didn't have any problems not even going through some flooding on the street. Now my wifes Grand Prix with no intake got a CEL from a puddle and started to miss.

I have a K&N intake sitting on top of the engine in my CJ-5 Jeep. It goes mudding. It goes through deep water. It goes everywhere. It has been there over ten years. I do clean it if it gets caked with mud, but not otherwise. Water does not get through. I'd not take it in water so high that it would actually submerge the intake, but short of that, I'd not worry. 'Nuff said.

You wont have any problems with it in the engine bay unless you literally submerge almost the entire vehicle. Now if it was down under the fender thats a different story. Also a ram air tube could be troublesome in deep water. We technically dont even have a CAI available for the Titan. They are all short ram intakes. I had a CAI on my Spec V which sat down inside the fender. Last year when we had flooding from the hurricanes I hydrolocked an engine with it going through a puddle about 2 feet deep. Lost my car for weeks and cost the insurance company $6000. Needless to say I coverted the CAI into a short ram after that. Didn't notice any differecne in power and it sounded better.
