Gibson Exhaust Installation

I have a Gibson Dual Exhaust installed on my Titan and at the time I installed it I was unsure of the position of the muffler. Now the dual exhaust pipe that exits the drivers side is hitting the underside of my bed making a horrible vibrating noise and a clunk when I hit large bumps. The muffler output that has the two exiting pipes is situated so that if the muffler is one way the pipes are positioned about two inches higher than if it was spun 180 degrees. I currently have mine so that the exits are positioned higher which is probably causing the clearance problem with my bed.

Has anyone else that has installed this exhaust had this problem? If not how did you situate the muffler?

This is a crude pic but may help to explain.

Easy there fella. Patience.

My Gibson is great and does not hit and it's installed to the top. With the slip on style exhausts there is a lot of room for adjustment (or error). If you just loosen everything from the muffler back and realign you should be fine. Mine has about 1 1/2" of clearance to the bed and it has never hit. Here's a couple pics from when I installed mine. Not sure if they really help but they give the idea.

Thanks for the pics but I have the dual rear exhaust and the drivers side that crosses over the other side is hitting my passenger side has the 1.5 inches of clearance like yours. I will try to reposition the muffler but I dont think that it will be that easy since those clamps crimp the pipe a little.

This may not be much help either since I have the extreme dual but the routing across to the driver side is probably the same. It just takes some massaging of the fit to get things to clear.

Is the extreme dual the side exits? I would think that would be the same setup as the rear exit duals except for the last pipe that slides on the end. Do you have a pic of the pipe as it runs accross the back of the spare tire? That is where mine is hitting at.

I tried to loosen things up by taking off all of the clamps and try to rotate the muffler for more clearance but the clamps have created flat spots on the pipes so they are pretty locked in. I will probably have to disassemble then reassemble from the muffler back to get the right clearance. Good thing I did not have it welded yet

Here's a couple of more pics. One is the pipe going to the driver side. Sorry, couldn't get a real good picture of it. The other is the exit out of the muffler. It looks weird but there is about an inch clearance between the two pipes as one is slightly behind the other. I was having problems with the pipes hitting the left springs when the rear suspension extends so this is how they ended up looking with best clearance. Good luck.

This picture is the one I am talking about. Where the exhaust pipe crosses the support bar circled in your picture. Thanks for posting those pictures. I think I can see now after looking at yours that I need to rotate my muffler about a half an inch counterclockwise when looking at it from the rear. That should lower the drivers side exit pipe just enough to give me the inch of clearance that it looks like you have.

Thanks alot for the help.
