K&N Drop-in air filter installed

Well guys, I dropped in a K&N air filter last week and this week is my first week driving it back and forth to work. After I had installed my 40 series dual exhaust, I had noticed some low-end torque loss but I do believe that after installing the air filter I have gained it back and then some. I haven't noticed that much of a change in MPG but the exhaust does seem to have a throatier sound to it now. So far I am impressed at the gains I have felt. Just thought that I would post this if anyone was interested into buying a drop-in filter and wondering if there would be any gains or losses.

I don't have access to a chassis dyno, but do use a G-Tech Pro Comp accelerometer to make "before and after" comparisons. I run the K&N drop in with airbox mod. It gives me only 2 hp gain over paper, but I use it for other reasons.

I can't say how much the airbox mod helps, as I did that before getting the meter. I suspect that it did help.

I also have a K&N Aircharger and can switch intakes, in about 15 minutes now that it is assembled. The Aircharger produces about 10 horses total gain or about 8 over the K&N drop in. But it is too loud for my wife. Too much noise for ten horses.

This is making runs on the same day, same road, same temp and humidity.

I have a totally stock exhaust.

Don't expect a lot of power gain from any drop-in change.

I am very happy with performance, however, as this 4x4 Armada is a good bit heavier than the Titan and it is running 15.0 quarters at 92 mph in good weather, and the wife is still happy with the low noise level. I can't complain.

Thats an age old question. LOL Some say they do, but is seems most say they don't. I put a FRAM Air Hogg drop-in in my truck and my butt dyno said I got a wee tiny bit of a gain in the 3500-4000 rpm range. There is an older post around here that had some hard data on the air hogg. I cant recall who posted it, but they said it allowed more air than both the stock filter and the K&N filter....good luck.

Air Hog

I added the air hog to my Titan and didn't notice any difference in performance or economy.
