Black Box w JBA

Spent a few hours Dyno tuning an 04 Titan today. Mods were Volant
GenII, Throttle Body Spacer, JBA Headers, Gibson Cat Back and Unichip.
The base lines that were done twice, once before today and today were
less than Stock HP and Torque! We removed the Unichip and began tuning
after a few hours getting the mixtures right we had some pretty impressive
gains- They were around 40 Ft lbs and 30 Horsepower Rear Wheel!- I will
have them up on the web site late tomorrow evening. Iam sure that the
unichip could probably be programmed to work- The problem is who is doing the programming and the understanding of the Titan induction system.
The Titan wants a Fuel mixture of around 11.7:1 up to 4000 rpm. There
is a natural supercharging effect occuring in the Intake Plenum that builds
torque-( This by the way is where most Supercharged Vehicles like there
air/fuel mixture) After 4000 rpm you want to get to 12.5- 13.0 Air/Fuel
Ratio up to redline or mph governor on the Dyno!-- The Unichip had
the fuel trims wrecked at -15 to -16 percent (Computer trying to turn the
fuel off) Way to lean up to 4000 rpm and to rich after that- When we
unplugged the unichip and made a pass right after that we got our best run
with the unichip- Only one run and then it was back to the power robbing
fuel mixtures. Our Customer Chris was the first we had to add fuel (richen)
above the stock fuel mixture in places. I beleive this is do to the headers
JBA. I have had a couple of conversations about the Mossy Headers and
looking forward to gettin some and programming them for max power an no
Check Engine LAmp! I will keep you all posted Ps now the
customer can run regular unleaded the yunichip had timing at 30 degrees-
way too much for the efficient swirl burn of the Titan combustion chamber!

I was the customer at Pro Auto Man shop. First dyno was the unichip vs stock! Just like (RB's Titan) expierence my unichip was lower than my stock pull. Note: Unichip was unplugged and removed from the engine to do the stock pull. This was enough to put me over the edge to find unchip does not work! All that money for unichip!!! Then Ron took my base of my stock dyno and started installing the Black Box. Once installed the Black Box was hooked to a computer and Ron went to work. I was at Ron's couple of hours until he got the fuel air ratio where he wanted it. Each of my new dyno's showing steady improvement which put a smile on my face compared to the sad look I had from my Unichip dyno's. After the last dyno run Ron then took the Titan for a test spin and returned in the parking lot and stopped, then huge burnout!! I looked at Pircella which is Ron's Helper and said I can't wait to drive my new Titan. After taking my Titan home it has more power than before!! But I like everyone else looked at the BIG companies for the answer to our trucks ecu and I was very disapointed. To find out Ron's shop was less than 10 miles from my house. I want to Thank Ron and Pircella for all the time the put in to my truck and for the great product(Black Box).

It's great you live 10 min. from him and can wait while he tuned and dyno your truck. What about us who have to get it mailed to, how is the tunning go to be handle? Thanks

The great thing about Pro Auto Man he has tuned at least 6 different Titans maybe more with each truck with different mods to meet your needs. And Pro Auto Man has his own Titan. The Big companies like superchip and hypertech only have a program just for stock ecu not for different mods(intake, headers, throttle body spacer, exhaust).

This is sounding very promising.
I would also like to know how to go about getting this black box tuned to my truck not being near you.
Where are you anyhow?

It is a black box that enhances performance, each one is custom-tuned to the vehicle. So it is something they do; I wouldn't quite call it software yet it does adjust your ECU parameters. Call them up and they can make one for you.

Re: Black Box w JBA

Chris....glad Ron got you dialed in with the box. This is the best way to reap the most benefit from the box. I'm on my 2nd reflash with the box, hoping it will be better than the first go-around, which leaned things out too much. Should hopefully have it back soon to test.

Anyone who is even remotely close to Ron's shop should consider having their truck custom dyno tuned by Ron. There's some hit and miss doing it long distance like I'm doing...but I think we'll get her dialed in eventually, and the reflashes don't cost anything except postage.

I have a wideband afr kit, so I'm able to check the mix after each flash to see where I'm at. I'd strongly recommend installing a wideband for anyone serious about doing this box (or any piggyback/programmer).

I'll post my results, once we get it where it should be.

Actually, it is software that creates new MAF voltage output vs RPM maps within the box. By altering the MAF voltage that the ecu sees, you cause the ecu to utilize more ideal maps (either more rich, or more lean) at specific areas of the rpm curve. It's basically a translator.

proautoman,

How do you handle the programming for us guys across the country from you? How can we take full advantage of the "box"?

Re: Black Box w JBA

You provide your mods that you have done- We have several combinations
that we have done on the dyno! Also helpful is the following--
1. MAF Voltage from white wire at full throttle from volt meter
2. Long term fuel trims cruising at 65 mph from scanner
3. dyno graph with your air-fuel ratio from dyno
This is not necessary we have several tunes in our research and development
the goal is a perfect tune for max power and best fuel economy

Re: Black Box w JBA

I will give you a call proautomann. Unfortunately, the last time I called they said you were at an auto show and would not be back until the end of the week. Does this still apply?
