Whoopity doooo...yea a lifetime warranty is great, but I live in the NE where it snows 3 months of the year and the salt kills exhausts...the last thing I want to do is replace exhausts every year. Give me the good stuff and the warranty...plus you all forgot to mention the B&B exhaust...good quality for similar price.
Very true.
Another factor a lot of folks never consider is TIME. IMHO, even if there is a "lifetime waranty" if you take time off work or vacation to get things fixed, it still cost money. Time = money !!! I wonder IF the same people who think that a lifetime warranty is the next best thing since sliced bread will be as happy as they are now when they have their brakes fixed 2-3-4 or 5 times "under warranty". Their loss of time, vehicle use and related headaches are probably ignored too just to have things fixed "under warranty". The less time I spend fixing things for free, the better for me.
Being cheap is not the same or even compare to a smart, intelligent consumer. I'll go for quality anytime
I've been trying to get the sound clip but I must have equipment that is too old. My video recorder has RCA phono jacks and the guy at CompUSA said I need to buy an adapter to convert the RCA jacks to USB - or something like that. Price for the adapter would buy me another toy for the truck so I'm hoping someone else can post the sound clip.

You are alluding to the idea the "banks " kit is not quality, which I don't think anyone here on this board has any problems with.In fact most I've heard rave about its quality (as do I).Ok, so you buy the 304ss kit from Borla or BB and spend say $300 more atleast for it over the Banks kit..All of which have a lifetime warranty and you get oh say and extra 6 months out of it in the salt covered roads on the east coast.Does $300 more sound like a better investment for 6 months more of use since you are going to replace any of them sooner or later anyway?.It takes what; 2 hrs tops to do one of these installs in the garage.Sounds to me like the best investment is saving the $300!

Unless you just like to lay under your truck and admire shiny exhaust tubing, there is not going to be much difference between 409 and 304 stainless. Yes the 409 will discolor MUCH faster and get a surface patina, but that's about it. As far as rust-through of the tubing, both will last the life of the vehicle.
The big killer in exhaust systems is the condensation that forms inside it upon cold start-up. This is from the hot water vapor in the exhaust air stream condensing on the cold metal piping. Once the piping warms up, it stops forming and reevaporates back into the stream. However, it tends to collect in the mufflers and does most damage there. That is why you see very small weep holds drilled in the OEM muffler casings at their rear lowest points, and moisture staining from those holes.
My understanding is that all the various manufacturers noted above use 304 for their mufflers, so all the weak areas (the mufflers) are made of the same material. As far as the piping itself, it becomes an appearance issue.

I actually like to look at shiny pipes, so there! Seriously though, you're probably right.
I will say that you don't have to drop $300 more than the Banks to get the B&B or Borla. The pricepoint is much closer to $200 more. That said, what it comes down to is sound preference, performance and looks - nothing new there - which just brings this back to a subjective decision as performance is hard to standardize and prove one as better than the other. That said, there are certain things I couldn't justify - for example, if the B&B was made out of aluminized steel, I'd probably have a serious problem shelling out $600+ on it.

What have you been smoking?? The main paranoid/insecure word here is "alluding". In my post, I did not quote any word from you, "jeepinfun", nor mention the product "Banks".
Anyway, my post was in complete reference to 304 vs 409 stainless steel with both products having a lifetime warranty. I said: Time = money. If I lose time to have a product replaced or fixed in it's covered warranty time, I meant it as money in time lost, then the cheaper initial value has outlived/de-valued its initial saving. Example: If my working day is worth $300 and I had to get a day off or two because my vehicle needs to get to the shop for repair, then i've lost 300-600 dollars to have a work done for free under warranty. The value of time is relative to individual's income therefore, I know this may not mean squat to you "jeepinfun" if your time is of less value than mine but if the shoe fits......well.... you can fill in the blank

granted, time ='s $$ ..But the simple fact remains you are stating that 304 ss is so much better than 409 in terms of its "time ='s $$ theory" that somehow you may take one less day off in your work schedule to replace a "rusted" out 409 system as opposed to a "rusted" out 304 system. For most of us, the exhaust systems (any of the stainless ones) will outlast the time we actually have the trucks ourselves so what does it really matter?.So, unless you plan on keeping your truck for umpteen amount of years, the "time ='s money" thing really wouldn't apply.
