Best place for new exhaust?

So I'm looking to install a new exhaust system on my Titan. I have no mechanical skills to speak of so I will probably end up getting a shop to install it for me. I'm wondering if there any particular places that I should be looking at. Also is it usually cheaper to buy the exhaust from a shop and get it installed or buy it from a different party? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Best place for new exhaust?

There are a lot more knowledgable people in here than me, for I too am mechanically challenged, but I bought the Banks monster exhaust and installed it myself. There are many, many systems that have been installed by many different members here, and they all have their upside. I liked the idea of Banks being pretty much a change out, that is, you take the old one off and the Banks bolts right in place of it, it's just larger and is better made. It took us an hour and it went smoothly, AND the sound is awesome! HP gains have been debated, and I could swear I felt a little more umph.

Most cat back system you hear of on this site are easy bolt on. It will probably take you longer to take the stock sytem off than to put on of these aftermarket system on.

for sound clips there a sticky somewere on here.. I believe in the performance section. I watched Stillen put mine on and I think anyone can do it after watching them. Go find that thread and look and see what you want and I'm sure what ever you decide you can put on youself. If not, pay someone to do it.

If you go to a muffler shop they will most likly use aluminzed. If you want stainless then shop around. Also it depends on if you want mandrel bending or not. No shop in Polk county makes mandrel bends.

I'm real happy with it, I have not gotten a dyno but I could tell right after it was put on the extra kick it has. The sound is very similiar with the zoomers if you want to listen to that clip. I have not had a chance to make a vid for it.

Re: Best place for new exhaust?

I would buy a bolt on cat-back exhaust system. I think on average if you take it to a muffler shop they will charge you by the hour. Should only take them an hour to do so maybe in the area of $80. I installed my exhaust myself and it is very easy. You need a 14mm socket or wrench. It is about 10 bolts and 3 hangers. Hanger are just rubber gramets that hold the exhaust. I installed mine in about a little more than an hour, but I also don't have any air tools, so I just did it all by hand. It is very easy to do, but if you are not confident I would buy an exhaust from a supporting vendor or online somewhere (a lot cheaper than go into a shop) and then take it to a muffler shop.

Re: Best place for new exhaust?

I think the best place for a new exhaust is to simply put where the old one was.
