Finally installed the PRG Traction Bars

All I have to say is why didn't these trucks come with a traction bar from the factory. What a totally different truck to drive. It's just plain tight now. And boy does it plant the power down.

Here are some pics.

I decided to weld the brackets into place instead of drilling and bolting them in. Worked out great!

How much did the parts cost? How about installation?

Re: Finally installed the PRG Traction Bars

Should you wait to put on the traction bars if you are planning to put on a lift? Would the mounting location be different after the truck is lifted say 6 inches?

Re: Finally installed the PRG Traction Bars

Those look great? Has anybody installed them with the bolts instead of welding? I would be interested to see how they look and function like that. Makes me want a set. I am considering this PRG performance lift seriously. I just want to have stock towing and hauling capabilities and want a matching DR rear reservoir shock. They are supposed to be coming out with the shock, but I am not sure if there will be Deaver springs with the same load capacity. Also, when you crank the DR coilovers up to 3", do you lose downward travel or anything? If you use the Total Chaos arms also, does it counteract this?

If you were going with a bigger lift like 6" or 8" I would say yes. I don't plan on going up more than a couple more inches in the back so I am not worried. I talked with Greg before the install and he did recommend threading the helm joint down to about 1/4" off the end of the threads to allow for maximum adjustability if the truck is lifted up in the future.

I looked at drilling and bolting but I think it would weaken the frame too much for towing or for offroading. I would not think that you would lose any downward travel with the DR's cranked up because you are just moving the spring perch up the assembly a bit more. If anything it would increase the distance that the shock body could travel up and down the shock core. The a-arms do come with a taller bump stop that goes on the lower a-arm to prevent too much suspension travel. The Chaos arms allow for more downward droop over the stockers. Where the stockers droop down and contact the shock bucket at full extension, the Chaos a-arms allow a couple more inches of downward play.

I have the TC/Deavers/DR Coilover/Bilstein combo then I put Greg's 1.5" rear block in as well and cranked up the DR's to level it out. Well, the ride sucked (IMO) it was crazy stiff and no fun at all. Height was perfect (approx.4") but not worth it when I lost the great suspension feel I had without the 1.5" blocks. Just wanted to let you know that when you start cranking those DR's they get crazy stiff - FAST. Then again, some people like that so it may be for you. I do mostly city driving though so the super stiff front end was not required.
cheers,

Re: Finally installed the PRG Traction Bars

I think I will end up getting the DR's in front and putting either Bilsteins or some DR Reservoir shocks on the rear if they ever come out with them. Maybe I will get some Total Chaos A-arms if they will do anything and maybe the trac bars. But I think I will leave the rear at the stock height and just set to the DR's to 2" for a level.

So did you crank it back to 3 inches to get your ride back? I have the same setup (uninstalled as I wait for the Deavers) and wondering what would be the optimum for ride quality ...my understanding is this setup would be just as good as factory.
