Re: Glowin need exhaust help (custom glasspack exhaust)

Its not an issue of size but rather of offset.

Take my advice, glasspacks would be better off left back in the 60's. Buy a real muffler.

Re: Glowin need exhaust help (custom glasspack exhaust)

Whats the point in asking advice if you dont want to hear what others have to say?

Just an FYI:

1. Glasspacks rely on a louvered core to suppress noise. Side effects of this design are as follows:

a) they flow worse than stuffing a rag into the exhaust pipe. Fact is that they are the worst 'mufflers' for performance on the market.

b) the inherent design allows the packing material to eventually blow out of the louvers and further decrease performance and sound.

c) they are made of literally 'dirt cheap' material and last about as long as the cheap stock tires.

Best of luck, but dont say you werent forewarned.

What I don't get is why someone would intentionally "Jerry Rig" their ride. I understand needing to save money but even "Ghetto Technology" use of hodge podge universal parts and equipment is better than using what even throwback musclecar motorheads know is a crock of crap waiting to happen.

Glowin,

It appears to me that you've become rather defensive about your wish to use what is obviously not in the best interest of your vehicle. I won't speak for the rest of these folks but speaking for myself I can say that I only contributed what I've found to work in most situations in life. Wisdom comes with experience. Unfortunately experience comes from making mistakes and bad judgement.

Please post up another thread in a couple months when your shiny red glasspacks have blown the packing out and are covered with rust .

If the closest size you can order the glasspacks in is indeed 2.5", no worries. Any muffler shop can "flare" the I.D. of the glasspack, to slip right over your stock piping.

Takes seconds to do.

Re: Glowin need exhaust help (custom glasspack exhaust)

Not unless the glasspack comes in an 'S' shape. Remember that there is an offset between the inlet and outlet on the stock muffler. Although im sure that having a 2.5" piece of pipe pinch bent into a 1" ID piece of pipe doesnt matter anyways since there would be a glasspack before the bend.

Honestly, i havent been under the truck yet to even have known that... Was just thinking aloud on trying to come up with a solution.

Re: Glowin need exhaust help (custom glasspack exhaust)

ok i see that i went kinda crazy on all of you and im sorry. i just need to know the sizes and thats great i have done some thinking.and the glasspack will only be the temorarry solution.untill i can afford a borla. i know borla i like the most $$ but hell.if i did stillen headers in to a full borla now that would sound kick ***!! i know i did come around.and i did cancel my order of the glass pack.i think that i will just order a performance muffler but nothing more then 150 bucks.i just need a replacement.
