Exhaust Tip HELP!

I have an 05 Crew Titan and have just purchased a 3" inlet 4" Outlet Stainless exhaust tip. I just cut my factory "snake bend" off and the d**n think will not fit. I read a lot of articles stating that the pipe is 2.5" and some say 2 3/4". Shouldn't a 3" inlet fit over the stock? After I cut it off at the straight point I measured because I didn't think I would get a acurate measurement at the bend and the measurement is 3". What should I do? It actually does not look that bad just cut off and no tip. The next largest size inlet on a tip available is a 4". Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
