I would like to add the volant air intake to my stock truck . I like the sound of the factory exhaust. Will I see any improvments in performace with just the air intake or is it only when you combine both the air intake and exhaust system that you achieve results.
Don't expect real noticable gains with intake and exhaust. Some people claim to feel a big difference, but I have never really noticed any real big difference.
If you get a Volant, make sure it is the newest updated model, the initial models, like mine, do not fit very well needing considerable modding/rigging of the area to make it fit.

well for some...mines great...havent had a problem YET at least...
I also have version 2 and mine fits and works fine. I didn't notice any gains from the Volant until I got my exhaust. The two (intake and exhaust) seem to work best together in my opinion. And, even then, the gains aren't that noticable. It does pull harder and longer at 3,000+ rpm's. But with my dual exhaust I think I lost a little on the low end. Overall, I may gained a little extra "umph", but nothing to write home about. Looks and sounds cool though, haha.

Yes, to get the most performance you need to let it breath on both ends.
I first installed the Volant Gen III. I felt a little gain in ponies and saw a little gain in gas milage. I just had a JBA CAT back exhaust system installed this week. You can diffenitly feel the responce improve. The muffler JBA uses is a freeflow style or LOUD. At first it is very novel but, it soon wears off when you can't hear yourself think. I spoke to the guys who installed it (SKG racing). They researched the problem and found that the exhaust systems for Toyota's & Nissan's you have to be careful because they tend to be noisy. I am having the muffler changed. Supposablie it is alittle louder than stock with no performance loss. So, to answer your question...yes, you need to do both intake & exhaust if you want to see real gains either in performance and or milage.
