My expierence of "The Delicate Titan Exhaust – its resistance to Mods without vibration – drone - resonance"
2006 CC 4X4, big tow – has 4 OEM CATS – links at end of this post.
Unfortunately the url's change when I post, so you'll have to go to Club Titan - its posted in Performance Mods under The Delicate Titan Exhaust – its resistance to Mods - vibration – drone - resonance
Exhaust Grounding Straps - Value?
I started with a performance shop fabrication on the OEM system. At the 2-inch OEM Y pipe the shop fabricated a 3-inch exhaust pipe to the 3-inch Flowmaster in/out and installed a 3-inch tail pipe with exit at OEM location at right rear.
This produced a horrible combination of vibrations and drone, the worst at low RPM around 1,350 – 1,700. The vibrations came up through the floorboard and could be felt in the steering wheel, bad – bad – bad.
The performance shop cure was to replace the Flowmaster muffler. Instead I searched the Internet and found information about Exhaust Grounding Straps.
There seemed to be some logic to the EGS claims, but rather than purchase the advertised kits I simply went to Napa and bought 4 quality ground straps and installed them as directed on the EGS site. This was not snake oil, it worked, and 90 % of the drone was gone while the vibrations were reduced by about 95 %.
I drove the truck for about 2,000 miles this way while researching Titan exhaust mods at Titan Talk and Club Titan.
The conclusion I drew form this research is that the Titan has two-exhaust constriction points, the OEM CATS - Resonators and Y pipe.
The next step was replacing the 2nd set of CATS with 2-½ inch straight pipe and new bungs for the oxygen sensor. Upon start up it was obvious the Titan liked the mod with its bark. The unexpected bonus: All VIBRATION and most all exhaust drone was gone!
I purchased a Flowmaster 2 into one collector a 2-½ inch to 3 inch. The next day the OEM Y pipe was removed and the new Flomaster was fabricated with 2-½ inch pipe to the collector and 3 inch out to match the existing fabrication.
Upon startup the Titan really barked, seemed very happy with the change. The Bonus, all drone – vibration completely gone!
My opinion re: Titan exhaust mods:
The OEM exhaust has built in vibration points when the OEM system is altered – modded.
First the CATS have a built in vibrator at the internal screen designed to burn extra fuel.
Second the OEM heat shields set up a negative resonance when the exhaust is modded – made with less restriction – opened up.
Thus, the EGS likely eliminates the vibration – resonance – drone by grounding this nuisance to the frame. Keep in mind this is my opinion; I am not an automotive engineer, just an ex-street racer – hot rodder and I’ve spent 3 months researching this stuff.
Conclusion:
If you have not replaced the 2nd OEM CATS – Resonators you’re gonna have vibrations – drone – resonance, that 90 – 95% in my opinion, can be eliminated with 4 EGS correctly placed.
If you don’t want to install the EGS then replace your OEM CATS – Resonators as a First step.
If you’re not 100 % satisfied then replace the OEM Y pipe with a quality 2 into one collector. I’ve found the Flowmaster to be an excellent off the shelf item.

This may answer some questions many have about Titan exhaust, it may not, but I’ve shared my experience; some of you may learn from this some of you may not.
In any case enjoy, have a nice day.
EDIT: For some reason the url's got modified and do not work as a result.
