Need Opinions On Dana 60 Rear

Ok, i have been in contact with an aftermarket rear axle builder about a direct swap dana 60 for the rear of the titan. Price would be a bit over $2500 (closer to $2800) and would use your stock rear brakes but have all the electronics. This would allow for just about any gear change and/or common lockers or posi. The front of a 4x would need re-gearing and that looks to be around $800. This is just to get feedback to see if more than a few would be interested in such an upgrade. Please post opinions and/or suggestions. Thanks...greg

Re: Need Opinions On Dana 60 Rear

I'm not 4x4 so I only need the rear and I'm in. This is a bit cheaper than what I've been told by Dynatrac.

Sure would be beneficial to have that option!

Re: Need Opinions On Dana 60 Rear

That sounds great. So you'd be able to run any Dana 60 axle mods then?

Are you talking about gearsets? If so then yes, tons of gears for that bad boy.

Re: Need Opinions On Dana 60 Rear

I'd actaully like someone to make a good forged gear set to fit as exact replacement to what we have.

That would be nice until you went high hp or bigger tires than 35s depending on off road terrain traversed. The 44 pumkin is spot on for lighter vehicles in the rocks with not over a 35" tire. Mud being more fogiving it may accept bigger meats there. A simple swap still limits the ring and pinion to the 44 housing and that's the problem. I'm just thinking if it's going to get done this is the absolute right way hands down to give you piece of mind if you are worried about it. It is way more expensive of course but hey, it's only money. I think it grows on trees, that's what Cartman told me anyway.

I'll second that.

I'd prefer to get a solid gear set replacement ($600 - 800 installed) for what I currently have. I dont do any off roading and doubt I'll ever get a supercharger.

Re: Need Opinions On Dana 60 Rear

I'm sure I'll be in the minority but I don't want a Dana 60. That housing is big and heavy, hangs down too low, and is just plain overkill for 95% of us. Maybe if he does a high pinion setup and can somehow put it on a diet I'd go for it. But right now I'd prefer a built-up 44 over the 60.

Re: Need Opinions On Dana 60 Rear

Sounds good to me! I'll convince my wife that it will save us money in the long run. If I get the Dana 60 instead of the 3/4 ton Titan, I'd save a ton of money!

Greg I am in as I am sure my Titanic will sink the rear end pulling the new 28" toy-box with car in it.. Also I would want some short rear end for towing. I am installing airbags and the trailer brakes shortly.
Take care Greg hope all is well with you.
