Hey, whats up people? Well, first off I just wanna know what kind of air intake I should get for my truck...K&N, AirRaid, Volant...whatever. But I heard reports about how the intakes would do worse than any good. So right now I have a K&N drop in and wondering if I should just replace the stock tube instead. So go ahead and give me a heads up and let me know...oh yeah, whats up with the trottle body spacers...do they really make much of a difference? Looks like the same concept of the Tornadowhich I tried and never worked on my old 4runner. I already have a magnaflow and my next upgrade is to superchip the truck. Thanks
I have the AEM, very nice intake, good design and the instructions are very detailed as well. Plus as already stated and it a dry type filter

I have the Nismo as well and really like it. Others claim more power but the Nismo increase was well balanced across the RPM range, at least on the dyno sheets.
If you are looking for performance they are all about the same. I bought the AEM because it is the only dry filter.
I also bought the AEM, for the same reason (dry filter). I also like the polished aluminum tubing of that kit versus the black plastic of many other kits, it really looks good when the hood is popped.
Of course, it sounds great too, much louder when you get on it, but quiet when cruising, the best of both worlds.
The pictures below were actually to show the white painted engine cover, but you can see the tubing at least, and how nice it looks.
There's a member over at CT (shailey) that's in the process of testing all the difference intake on a dyno. This is what he has tested so far with other intake soon to follow.
C&P
Stock box: produced the lowest numbers just as expected. The stock box was starving the engine of air for the mods that I have done. My times were the worst with it and the power suffered greatly.
Trueflow: Gains were very mild, but gains were present. So for those of you looking for the ultimate filtration without wanting top performance, this is your intake kit. Gains of 4 hp and 9 lbs of torque were the find.
Airaid: This is the system that I had installed in my truck for quite sometime. The top is open and it uses the stock intake tube, BUT the box does seal to the hood. This is evident by the worn spot on the insulation under my hood, so it DOES SEAL. This system did quite well with the testing. It also produces a sucking sound when feathering the throttle. I know that this system has even been called "A Joke" by some members, but that is not true. I think it could be better though if the intake tube were replaced. Gains were impressive though, 8 hp and 12 lbs of torque.
AEM Brute Force was the best so far. It had a more aggressive tone than the Airaid and produced a similar sound when feathering the throttle. You could tell that the tube was metal, it almost had a slight ringing to it. But it was not loud or annoying. For those worried about the tube being metal...DON'T. At 9 hp and 14 lbs of torque gain over stock, I don't think that the steel tube is warming any air like some have claimed. If it is warming air, I would hate to see what the gains would be with a plastic tube. LOL

I like the volant because of the Optional Ram Air Tube that is available. I also think these are less likely to pull hot air from the engine compartment.
Dryer Ducting...Duct Tape, an old pair of skivies...done.

Thanks for the good info, I'd be curious to see the final results. One questions though, were the tests performed hood up, or down?
I just installed the new Injen Power flow. Man is it bad a**. Total difference in performance. Sounds awsome, has a deep rumble type sound...clean.
It looks great under the hood also, you cant beat it.
I have had my Volant V3 in for a week now and I used to have the K&N drop in. When I first hit it, it feels about the same as the K&N maybe a little more powerful jump, but at about 2800 rpm's it shows a big improvement over the K&N. I went with the Volant because it is totally sealed and there is an option to go with the snorkel and get the real cold air from the front of the truck, and remember the colder the air the more power you get. It is deffanatly worth the $ . IMO

I too recently had the NISMO cai installed. I have noticed an increase
in my throttle response as well as an awsome noise when I take off.
I also liked the fact its a pure nissan product , so theres no warranty
issues. happy trails.
I went with the AEM and could not be happier. As soon as I took it around the block and punched it, along with the banks exhaust, the truck sounds mean you can hear the engine better and notice the increase in hp/tq at once.
