Wanting to go a little faster...

Are there any simple and halfway inexpensive things you guys could suggest to make my truck just a little quicker or faster? It doesn't have to do a 9 second quarter, but I just want something simple that gives it a little bit of an edge over other stock Titans (or any other pickup). I'm pretty clueless when it comes to performance stuff unless I'm playing Need for Speed or Gran Turismo. Anyway, just wandering what or if there is anything I could do without digging to deep into the ole' wallet. Thanks.

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

Intake - Would recommend AEM dryflow $230-250
Exhaust - Go to a muffler shop and use their pipes (go 3") Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc $325-350

Just with those two, you'll see a real nice increase. Not REAL cheap, but worth it.

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

I got more perceived performance from an intake, but I enjoy the "sound" of my exhaust mod more. Both can be done for around $500-600. Be careful with exhaust if you are a little sensitive to noise... Folks seem to love it or hate it. Good luck!

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

I really want the intake but am a little iffy on the exhaust. Is it acutally harmful to have the intake but not also modify the exhaust? Can I modify the exhaust without too much more noise? I like the sound on other trucks, but I think it would get annoying on my own, but if it has to be done I could probably live with it.

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

You could just do the CAI but the combo is were you get more power. There are exhuasts that sound great and are not annoying. There is Stillen and Zoomers which sound great and don't have the drone that you hear with the banks. I have the Stillen and rarely hear a drone, the Zoomers claim no drone.

There are two Sticky's under the Performance Fourm, Intake List and Exhaust List. You can look at those and get a idea for what you want.

Titans are well insulated. Don't worry bout the sound if you got your windows up

Mine is loud with the Headers and 3" exhaust but with the windows up its fine I can hear the radio clear.

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

Ask about mods to go faster on this forum is like asking the NRA what's the best gun...

As for inexpensive, that doesn't exist...

1. For serious drag racing, NO2.
2. For standard umph, intake, exhaust.
3. Headers from the posts make a difference depending upon combination of intake and exhaust...
4. Of course, you sell off a bodypart, go with Stillen supercharger.
5. If you say "no" to #4, then go with different tires and wheels to lighten it up. It will be expensive but less so than a Stillen supercharger...

Happy leadfooting!

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

If you wanna try cheap first, get some type of exhaust, then "mod" your stock airbox and add a drop-in filter, which is what I did. I simply vut the intake tube inside the airbox, and it helps-helps a lot! I then added an AmsOil airfilter that allows the truck to breathe better, especially with the exhaust.
It's not a true CAI, but I don't think the truck has a bad intake system, and all I did was allow more airflow, but without adding the cost. And if you wondering, I can hear the air sucking even with a Banks exhaust. Banks and modding the airbox, plus the drop-in filter cost me $500.00 total.

Then you can add a Throttle Body Spacer (TBS), which you can buy from a site sponsor for around 105.00 or so.
The TBS will help on the lower end, but may hurt slightly on the upper end, which, with the exhasut and modded intake, you'll be making that back-up.
Also, switch to synthetic oil. I've heard it can add a few HP, which can't hurt..

Exhaust: 300 to 550
Modded Intake w/ Drop-in Filter: 55.00
TBS: 115.00
Synthetic Oil: 40.00 to 75.00

Cheap, but effective.

Good luck!!

Re: Wanting to go a little faster...

Okay,
Here is some "real" on the cheap mods you can do
Cheap being relative

DIY Air box mod with a drop in high flow filter $30

Royal Purple Syn. Oil, First time about $90

Air Raid TBS under $100.

When you get the scratch go ahead with a true intake and an Exhaust.

Yeah this will help gas milage too, if you can stay off it!

Actually, it is a true cold air intake. The ones with the open filters under the hood are the non cold air intakes.
