Is this thing worth $55? I saw where others have had issues with spongy brakes. Seems like this may help. Anyone have the stiffener and does it work? Seems expensive for a bracket and a u-bolt but it's not like I'm equipped to fabricate one!
There's a couple of places that sell it for $50 out there, but that's about as cheap as it gets. And, I've heard they are pretty nice for stiffining the brakes up.

not really needed and you cant really feel it unless you have a total upgrade. The force that the master cylinder puts out is going to go to the path of least resistance, this (on a stock system) will mean the brake pads. If you have aftermarket rotors and pads, and still have squishy feeling breaks, replace the brake lines with steel braided lines, this will help tremendously. When the brake fluid pushes aganist the brake pistons there is no where for the fluid to go and the stock lines bulge from the pressure, steel ones do not do this, after all of this if you still have spongy brakes then add the stiffener

Not to be disagreeable but I've got both stainless steel brake lines and the brake master cylinder stiffener on my truck. I would say that the best advice I could give would be to find out the difference it makes for yourself. Open your hood and start the engine, then have a friend or someone step on the brake pedal (of course keeping the truck in park). You can watch the entire master cylinder flex forward and up. This stiffener eliminates all that by mounting to a very solid part of the truck. If you still feel the desire to stiffen up your pedal then I'd recommend going with a set of stainless lines...after all, I'd rather spend 55 dollars rather than 100+ on a set of brake lines...We sell both stainless steel brake lines and these stiffeners so either way I'm impartial.
I don't understand why such a small part is so expensive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all 2005+ vehicles have Brake Assist? So they can't even use this stiffener?
-Cyrus
I think it's only on certain models.
