Volant 3 CAI Kicks butt........

I just installed my Volant 3 CAI and I'm impressed. First of all its not what I would have expected from the negative posts that I've read on this site(I'm a new member). Second, I can tell there's more giddyup on the throttle and it sounds much better(flowmasters also involved). Can any Titan owners with that have installed the Volant 3 CAI please respond. No vibrations on this end.

Re: Volant 3 CAI Kicks butt........

I tracked my order's arrival via UPS, so had my OEM airbox off when Brown arrived. Install went fairly smoothly, but their instruction sheet sucked! One zeroxed page.

I found two things: After installing the TBS, my engine cover required some modifications before it would sit down over the extended throttle body. I shimmed it forward with three washers which helped, but I still had to do some trimming with my knife. And the Volant tube is about 3/4" too short going into the filter box. I've attempted a remedy of using thick double-sided tape around the circumferance of the intake tube, and then really streching the rubber around the tube and tightening the hose clamp.

If that doesn't work or hold, I've also moded a 2" extension from some PVC pipe. My only thought on using that is the ripple effect and burble of air going thru it from the filter housing. I'll test drive the mod tomorrow and report back.

damn, it looks like you got a defected Volant CAI 3. All the pieces on my Volant CAI 3 fit perfect(no tape included). The only problem is a vibration when i stomp on it. Anyone out there know how to fix this? i installed the stick on foam that was included.

It is not the volant it is the volant with his TBS that is the problem. It moved everything a little bit.

Re: Volant 3 CAI Kicks butt........

I installed my Volant 3 two days ago, and I did not have any BIG issues with the install. The instructions seemed more like a diagram with a parts list, so I hit the internet site and found instructions with a little more detail. The only concern I have is the fact the O2 sensor plug seems to be resting a little too close to a line coming out of the radiator. As for vibration issues, I think I'm in good shape. The kit only came with one bolt to use, so I swiped a bolt from my brother's Toyota parts bucket and utilized the second mounting hole at the bottom.

In summary... This CAI certainly rocks!!! Just ask the Ford F-150 that tried to mess with me the morning after the install. He's behind me somewhere...

I guess I should mention I also installed a Gibson SS side swept exhaust the same evening... So far, the combo seems to be a good match.

Ahh you don't need an instruction sheet. You know only about 3% ever read instructions anyways!!

Re: Volant 3 CAI Kicks butt........

I'm not sold on it. I installed mine about 2 weeks ago, and it certainly makes more noise, but doesn't seem to add any power. If anything, I may have lost some power. I may try the stock airbox mod with a K&N or similar drop-in filter to see how it compares.
