exhaust question

if i cut my tail pipe off behind the muffler would i need an extra support bracket to hold the remaining section of tail pipe up? i have gone through three chrome tips and can't keep them clean so i want to do this but need to know if the exhuast will support itself withou a bracket. thanks

I'm not sure exactly what you have planned, but you need to be careful you don't end up with exhaust fumes getting sucked back into the cab or into a shell on the bed (if you ever decide to get one). Also make sure you are not going to be exposing something to hot exhaust gasses that shouldn't. (e.g., gas tank).

Consult your local laws regarding discharge location requirements for exhaust pipes. I think some of them require outside the footprint of the passenger compartment (including any shell).

Bestatchess is right. I use to have a bad habit of hacking my tail pipes off behind the muffler and installing "dumps"....it wasn't untill 1987 when the blood work from my newborn son came back showing abnormally high carbon monoxide levels that I put 2 and 2 together and came to the realization that my favorite type of exhaust system just might be flawed.

good point on the carbon monoxide thing. i will just hack off the ugly chrome tip i can't keep clean. thanks
