How to Get a Better Launch

Guys,

I've been playing around with the g-tech and running some 1/4 mile runs.

My times aren't bad, but my 60' mark is killing me! It's up around 3 seconds.

What can I do to get it down???
My best run to date (60') was 2.67, which is still pretty high.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Take off in 3rd, half-pedal, then once I'm going, I go WOT.
Take off in D, WOT (worst times so far). The truck either spins, and I get a SLIP light, or it just moves out slowly.
WOT in 3rd, but it still moves out slow.

Goofy thing-one time the truck will act like it won't move, the next, it's laying 6' of rubber.

I know some will say, gears, but I dont' think accounts for all of it. I'm thinking it's a TM issue, but there's gotta be a better way to launch this thing.

I'm using the same place, so road conditions are the same. I normally have less than a half-tank of gas. Temps have been moderate and humidity usually less than 60%.

Any thoughts....??

Re: How to Get a Better Launch

Keep in mind your 60' is going to be a bit off because the surface you're running on isn't quite a racetrack (there will be more debris, less traction). Anyways I brake-torque to about 2k RPM IIRC, foot eases the gas all the way down over about a 1.5-2second period.

Re: How to Get a Better Launch

The Detroit TrueTrac diff. will help for sure.

I can't go WOT from a dead stop either. WAY to much peg leg spin.

At the track I've found it best to launch at 1/2 throttle, and after the lunge I go WOT. The TrueTrac will change that. Cant wait for it to get here!

You could get some BFG KDW's like Toomny did. That will help settle the spin quite a bit.

Re: How to Get a Better Launch

upon quick reading the title i thought it said how to get a better lunch. so i will respond to that title as opposed to the intended title, because I like it better. to get a better lunch I would recommend going to a nice restaurant, one like carabbas or olive garden, plus they have that soup salad breadstick deal.

Re: How to Get a Better Launch

Buzz try laying in the gas and brake at the same time 2K.

My torque convertor varies abit at launch and will spin cold everytime but once warmed up its consistent and slower when running on brushed concrete. Most all of the data loggin runs I did with cipher using power brake (Stall) were worse or equal to the mash and go.

From what I have been able to see in the data my timing is being retarded as much as 5degree using 93 (and more using 87) during the "pullin our ars outta the hole" phase... 12-27mph. This is an ECU thing that we will hopefully have an option to correct in the next 6mths. Finger crossed.

Re: How to Get a Better Launch

Thanks guys,

I'll try to torque it up slighty, and see what happens.

I agree RB, although I dont have a data recorder, I can tell it's doing something at the low end. If, or I should say, WHEN we can get around that, WOW!!!

Re: How to Get a Better Launch

Do you have the offroad tires? If you do best advice I can give is make sure to air them down to about 28-30 psi. Also you can try a few runs in 4hi. The offroad tires are really sh!tty on anything other than, well, offroad. Last time at the track it was wet and 2wd just couldn't get no traction. 4hi hooked up and launched hard. Even on the street my truck spins pretty hard before it hooks up. Maybe try the traction bars if you haven't already, that might help. I got my best times from just leaving it in drive and mash & go. Good luck!

.
.
Mount the ELECTRIC WINDSHIELD WASHERS under the truck and push the button when you are power braking the truck. The tires will turn to glue and knowone will know that you are spraying the tires. ha ha

Have Fun!
