Re: Tru Trac is in

Dropped off my baby 30 mins ago to leave overnight to get the TruTrac installed first thing tommrow morning.. 200.00 isn't bad, hehe he wanted 250.00 at first but soon as I told him I would be supplying my own Royal Purple 75w-140 gear oil he reduced the price to 200 since i would be supplying my own gear oil and carrier bearings..
Cant wait to let my baby scream at the track with both tires :P

Maybe he thought you would confess to towing (pushing) a 20,000 lb. trailer only in reverse in order to wipe out only the coast side of the ring gear?

Re: Tru Trac is in

Well some of you might know and some may not but I was originally going to do a truTrac on my 2.94...but now I'm doing a axle swap with a 3.36 and installing a TruTrac into that one. So my slightly used axle is getting fitted and I get to drive around. Down side is that I had to order the diff cover, bolts, oil, bracket from one of the vendors and they seem to have sold the last one...just hours before...So now my install is delayed until next week.

Hey Baseball my cost just went up a bit from what I mentioned due to swap but...but I really don't think it will be much more since they can work on it in the climate control area.

Re: Tru Trac is in

Got my truck back today, and it really pisses me off that it's raining!! So I can't really test it out much.. Although I did launch half throttle at a stoplight just to see if I could hear the locker engage, which I didn't but more on that later.. what I immediatly did notice was it lurched forward much harder and faster.. seems like the wheels are pulling the truck forward harder now Also called Detroit/Eaton this morning to make sure about break in procedures and he assured me that there is absolutely no special break in required whatso ever.. He then asked me what weigh oil I was planning on adding, then the problem arose.. I had already purchased Royal Purple Synthetic 75W-140 with the synerlec additive and he said absolutely don't use synthetic It will make it noisy as hell and lose it's efficieny as a LOCKER He said the synthetic is too thin of a oil and advised me to use a 75w-90 gear oil (petreloum based) and said that this would be much safer for the locker and get optimum street performance.. I then asked what about manufacture warranty stating that 75w-140 synthetic must be used in the rear he said they use that oil spec because of fuel efficiency/ govt regs crud..
I don't know much bout rear ends what do you guys think?? I figure Detroit/Eaton knows what is best for thier lockers, least I hope so, hehe

Re: Tru Trac is in

I was told the same thing. In the TT manual it says to use the same gear oil you do normally. They really need to get their story consistent

I have been beating on mine hard on the street and in dirt and sand with 75-140 syn with no noise or probs yet.

Re: Tru Trac is in

Just got my Tru Trac put in at NW differential in Kirkland WA for $370. That included the 145 weight redline oil & additive (they talked me into that set up) and the time to remove/reinstall the swaybar.

Had the motorcycle in the back, so I haven't had a chance to really drive it....but driving normally on dry pavement I couldn't tell any difference.

That is whats nice in normal drive mode you do not notice anything,,,, but push it around a corner or in the wet and you will notice it,.,,,,,

Re: Tru Trac is in

OK, had a chance to drive with it a bit.

The Good: Hooks up on take off. When you turn the wheels from a stop and stand on the throttle...the back end comes around nicely on dry pavement. Cool.

The Bad: Tire wear. Going around corners at normal speed, with the windows down, you can hear significantly more wear. And turning a single cookie...yikes! way more wear than I was expecting. The side edge of my otherwise new BFG A/T's lugs are thrashed.

For me, getting this done cost nearly $900, and it looks like the on going cost is going to be 30-50% additional tire expense. Totally worth it. Can't wait to get off road and throw some dirt.

Re: Tru Trac is in

I just got back from testing out my trutrac also, lol
I can't even do a brake stand burnout anymore, not sure if it's due to more traction, or less hp going to both wheels vs. 1 wheel only tried 1ce will try again tommrow and use less pressure on the brake pedal.. Going around corners with the bfg kdw's it's impossible to lose traction, I went full throttle thru 3-4 turns and normally it would've set my right tire into a smoking frenzy, all it did was plant the rear end and acclerate
Very nice mod, but boy am I going to look stupid at the track if I can't even do a burnout before advancing up to the staging lights..

Re: Tru Trac is in

Just got another install quote. This time its $300 - $400. A little lower than the last guy... but not much. I think the quotes are coming in high because nobody (that I'm aware of) around here has done any diff work to a Titan (except the dealers.. lol).

I also supplied them my service manual RFD and RAX sections along with the TrueTrac Manual so they could see what they were getting into.

My wishful thinking is that the one I choose to install it will end up seeing how easy it is and not charge so darn much.

Do like I did find someone who builds "hot rod, high performance engines" he'll be more than glad to do it, and they are probably more competent than most other shops that do just random work..

Got my new axle installed yesterday...
Survey-REAR END FAILURES ONLY
... Axle had a build date of 29 DAYS ago...so it's a newborn. Gonna break it in for a little while easy and then go to West Coast Differentials again for the TruTrac install.... pics of the really new axle/diff in the link provided.
