Re: timing advance

I yearn for the day's of yesteryear when advancing the timing was a simple twist of the candlestick......back in the 60's, my dad's circletrack StockCar actually had a long metal rod welded to the distributor that stuck through the firewall and he could alter the timing as he was driving it....old school stuff is cool.

Re: timing advance

I think it has a lot to do with how you approach them. You have to appeal to them (mention that 5 minutes work will be rewarded with 1 hours labor charge), and also say that many people have done it, and 2-deg is a minimal advance. Of course the service advisor/manager has to be a knowledgeable guy, otherwise he's just going to shoot you down because he doesn't want to be held liable for something he doesn't understand.

My advice to you: call back with a different accent and try again. If that doesn't work, try again lol. The more interest they think they have, the more likely they'll consider/research it.

Re: timing advance

From the folks at the Great Northeast Meet, This is the only mod so far that has nothing but benefits with no losses. Better MPG, better low end, better throttle response. I'm getting it done next time I go to the dealer.

I've done no performance mods, I've been through that with other vehicles, but this one seems worth it.

Re: timing advance

Do you have to use Premium gas or can you just run 87. Also, any long term effects with this? If you lose power, meaning if you battery went dead or you disconnected your battery would the ECU reset and the timing advance change gone? Thanks in advance for your answers!!!

Re: timing advance

No premium gas needed, milage is about the same, no gain no lost. My milage however did go down right after I got it done, hard to not step on the gas to see what it can do.
