Moroso Spiral Flow

I'm going to try a different twist on the moroso spiral flow resonator. I bought one this week from Summit, and I'm going to have it installed right before the Banks muffler, after the Y pipe in my system. Shouldn't lose too much sound, I'm hoping the result will still be loud, but with a little less in-cab drone. Might even increase my low end a tad with slightly increased backpressure (not sure though).

I'm going over my lunch break today, and I've got my camera so I'll give a full report with pictures, and possibly a sound clip after lunch.

Re: Moroso Spiral Flow

Just got back from the shop. The difference is not as drastic as I expected, but definitely a difference. The cab drone is slightly reduced, and the overall sound seems a bit more tuned. Its hard to explain, but its definitely a little cleaner, not quite as raw. Overall, I am happy with the mod. I really like the big Banks tip, which is why I ended up going this route instead of changing the tip.

Still very loud and definitely still sounds like Banks.

Oh why did you take a picture of the end of the spiral flow...now the secret is published...2.25 inch velocity chamber in there...LOL

Glad you like it. I like mine. the sound is less raspy for sure and the tone more deep mellow. Good combo for sure.

What's the deal with the smaller inner pipe? Looks like it would restrict flow big time!

Sorry RB, more secrets about to be disclosed...

There are two air passages in the muffler.

The remaining air is spiraled around the outer chamber, which reduces levels slightly, and spins the air, similar to a zoomers muffler, but not as drastically. Of course, the spinning is probably stopped when it hits the banks muffler.

Click on this link to see a cutaway.

Key word "Looks like"...They flow well. They are a full race muffler. I chose them becuase of the inner tube design and what I had read in ls1 forums.

I had the 2 resos morosos fired up before the banks went on just to see if I liked the sound...unfortunately it was still louder than I wanted.

I just saw a pic on Moroso's site and realized the flow pattern. From the picture posted here, it looks like there is only one smaller tube for the exhaust flow.

Yeah, in my picture, you can barely see the spiral flow opening. Definitely no loss of flow though, its awesome.

My muffler guy called it a spinner. He said he hadn't seen one in a long time. I thought it was funny, I could say I've got spinners on my truck (the redneck version at least!!!).

Re: Moroso Spiral Flow

I used these to replace my resos. The inner pipe is 1.5" dia - just like the resos. The spiral plates (of which there are maybe 6 in there) don't restrict flow much at all. It was worth a solid 0.15sec in the 1/4 mile.
