Has anyone tried hacking off the end of their stock airbox where the tube meets the box and just put a K&N in its place? Just want some reccomendations/concerns before I try it. I have an old K&N laying around the garage and was wondering if it would work. sorta like a poor mans intake kit. I just dont want to destroy my air box for nothing. Thanx.
Casey

isn't this the airbox mod that has been discussed many times ??
That air box mod is the cutting Inside the stock box. Not cutting the box completely off. Sorry if I wasn't very clear. I want to cut the box totally off and replace it with the K&N.

OK, check this. The lid of our air box, right? I want to cut the square part off where it meets the round part and just put a cone shaped K&N filter in its place. Hows that?

ahh ha.. I c now.
Thanks
Not sure how that would work out? Like said above it may let more of the hotter engine air in ?
Somebody on here did something similiar to that. Problem is allthe hot air in the engine compartment gets back into the engine.
Thats what I am concerned about. But other intakes on other vehicles pull air in a similar fashon. I was just curious if it would set off a MIL light or something detrimental to the ECU functions.

Some of the other kits have a open top, but they also have a rubber or foam seal that makes contact with the bottom of your hood to prevent hot air contamination .
Whatever benefit you might gain from a K&N will be lost by pulling in hotter, less dense air.
Either throw in a factory replacment K&N or Airhog or go with a true CAI.
