True dual exhaust. Worth it???

Tell me guys, is all the trouble of going to a true dual 2.5" exhaust worth it? Or am I better off with a single 3"? I plan on using supertrapp mufflers and dumping them in front of the passenger rear tire.

I am planning on going supercharged eventually, when an alternative to the stillen kit comes out. I like centrifugal chargers.

So that being said, would a dual 3" be better? I want to get the exhaust done first so I won't have to re-do it later. I am stead fast on the supertrapps because I like the adjustability for backpressure/sound. I can tune it down for when I have to drive someplace that frowns on loud exhausts and open it up in places that don't care. Not to mention that they qualify as forrestry service spark arresters. Need those on some trails here in cali.

Thanx guys!
Casey

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

My opinion only for the looks. You can get same sound and performance from a single. Besides if you dont have an H-pipe, Y-pipe or X-pipe there goes you power. And I know Im in trouble with that being said...lol Let the attack begin.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

On a true dual exhaust, some sort of x pipe or h pipe is a must so it will have the "scavenging" effect. Otherwise it will be like two bangers fighting each other.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

It's a personal preference depending upon the school of thought someone believes in.

Some say that you need back pressure so you do not lose low end torque, however, my "personal experience" indicates otherwise. My documented 0-60ft is 2.1 seconds. I still have to read someone with a stock exhaust claim better launches than 2.1 secs.

The 3" Monster Banks has very good documented exhaust flows and significant reduction of back pressure compared to Titan stock exhaust. Click here for some comparative (bottom of page) flow rates between the 3" Single Monster Banks VS 2.5" True-duals. The 2 x 2.5" has a very "insignificant" advantage. It is a toss-up. It's your preference.

The link also describes why the x-pipe (or H) is important in a dual system and some basic Exhaust 101 principles/theories.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

Check it out the experts say dual 3'' will kill low end....I hear a single 3'' is good for 400hp and a dual 2.5'' is good for 450hp while still maintaining some backpressure to preserve low end...

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

Thats just it. I want to eclipse the 500 whp mark with an alternate s/c when it comes out. Probably a combo with NOS. And with the supertrapps I can preserve the back pressure until I get the "other" s/c.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

Lemme say this on the Magnaflow I just installed. Mine is shown in the forum and is labeled Magnaflow Installed. The single input and dual output from the muffler in this installation is loud when goosed and really has no drone at a cruise. With the Volant CAI and the Magnaflow, I have increased horses thru the range. This is noted in medium and hard throttle. I venture to say that I have gained 20-25 HP.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

Titan OEM exhaust has 3.55 psi back pressure
1x3" Monster Banks measured 0.275 psi back pressure good up to 400 HP
2x2.5" True dual = 0.110 psi good up to 450 HP

If you have great plans in the future for your motor, plan wisely ahead.
Do it correctly once now or do it twice later.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

The NISMO exhaust is a true dual setup I believe. From what I can tell it's new and I don't know if anyone on here has it yet.

Re: True dual exhaust. Worth it???

Yellowmantis, if your going for seriouse power like 500whp, then I suggest going with at least 3" tubeing. That way, you don't lose too much low end but get the benefits of all the top end. I would also suggest that you don't go the duel route either. For that type of power, the straightest pipes with no resonators are what you are looking for. With running a supercharger, I don't think you have a problem with low end anyways, as superchargers produce enough power from idle on.
