Just installed an Optima Red Top battery and with one modification that you can do, it easily fits!
I do not have pictures yet but will try to get them if needed.
1. Disconnect negative and positive terminals
2. Remove bolt holding battery cover and battery.
3. Remove plastic cover for OEM battery. Keep battery tray intact.
4. Clean out any dirt/debris.
5. Install Optima. You will NOT need the height adjuster.
6. POSITIVE Wire modification. The positive terminal has a variety of cables joining up to the post that are bent at a 90 degree angle and connected by two nuts. The cable that is closest to the fuse box behind the battery will need to be removed and BENT FLAT. The new angle allows the cable to be run directly BEHIND the post as opposed to the side. This allows for the positive terminal to be attached without major rewiring.
7. Rebolt the modified cable. Make sure that entire set of positive connections are secure.
8. Because my connections were so badly corroded, I replaced them and it takes about 30 seconds to install a more solid positive terminal connection and about 5 minutes to strip the negative terminal and put a stronger connection on that one. It is not necessary if you have no corrosion.
9. Tighten the battery terminals.
10. Tighten down the bolt holding onto the battery. Fire it up.
You're done!
Kudos and huzzahs to the manager at Advance Auto for helping me figure it out.

Seeing how I am a moron, I would like a picture if you don't mind. I have a yellow top optima that I would like to install but have heard that it's a pain to do. Thanks in advance....
My ex-wife got the digital camera among other things in the divorce and I decided to spend extra cash on Titan mods rather than other cool toys.
Have patience whilst I get myself a new camera and learn how to use it!
Get a camera or else I'm coming to steall your banks exhaust....LOL

You know a few pictures with a hand model showing off the red colors of battery and finger nails could be interesting....

What group size optima did you buy? I am interested in doing the same, but with a deep cycle. I put 2 optimas in my boat and luv them especially the way they handle vibration and charge up really quick.

35/75 Red Top is what I bought with the GM side post connections although they're not used. Fits perfectly in the box-doesn't need the adapter for the bottom. The GM posts are away from the terminals to make the connections with the top posts fit.
If I was running high auxillary lighting or stereo/av system, I may consider a yellow top but I would actually mount that in the side lockbox...

Finally got pictures back of the Optima Battery installed.
1. 75/35 Red Top.
2. One terminal on the Positive side is bent flat rather than left at a 90 degree bend to make it fit.
3. Does not require the height adjuster.
Sorry for the long wait...
