Arrow Do exhaust save money on gas??

just a question ive had. i have heard both answers, so i was wondering what you guys think since the majority of you seem to have aftermarket exhausts. im thinking about getting either a banks monster or a magnaflow with dual exit. also, do throttle bodies do anything? i have a friend with a chevy 1500 who swears he gained 2 mpg's. feedback would be awesome. thanks guys!

p.s. im new to titantalK!

Welcome.
Short answer----no.
My best fuel saving mod has been Air intake.

Re: Do exhaust save money on gas??

Intake (CAI & TB) mods as well as exhaust mods such as headers, cats, etc will allow the truck to breathe better which SHOULD allow for better mileage. There is only one problem, 90% of the people that put these mods on also love to hear the sound of said Intake and Exhaust. When you start mashin the gas harder and harder to hear that noise, your mileage will go down. So if you can keep your foot out of it, you should see 1-5mph increase.

5 seems a bit steep I know, but after cai, headers, exhaust & tune, my 05 GTO was getting 22mpg on a tank when before it was much closer to 17. And as you can imagine my driving style was quite different with that extra HP. If that 6.0l in that car could benefit that well, I don't know why these trucks couldn't as well.

Re: Do exhaust save money on gas??

Since installing my exhaust I have noticed no difference in fuel milage. That being said, I am on it all the time now so I'm going to take this to mean if I could keep my foot off of the go button I would notice a nice increase im milage. I don't see myself being able to validate this any time soon because its sooo much fun.

Re: Do exhaust save money on gas??

Within a few weeks of adding and exhaust, CAI, etc, the computer will "see" the lean condition (more airflow with the same fuel flow) and adjust the air/fuel ratio (add fuel) to compensate. That is why no one sees any mileage or performance increases with the mods. If your truck is a FFV, then it can be leaned out to take full advantage of the mods (more mileage and more power).

Re: Do exhaust save money on gas??

No mileage improvement for me but there are dramatic performance gains on top of a circa '60 exhaust rumble.

Re: Do exhaust save money on gas??

Only 2 things have really proven better mileage in the titan:

Cure your leadfootitis (hard)

Increase tire pressure (say good bye to your fillings)

Re: Do exhaust save money on gas??

thanks all for the responses. one more quick question, have any of you heard of hearthrob exhausts? they make a dual exit for under 300

go to stylin concepts.com and type in heartthrob in the "search" window thingy.

anybody heard anything about this? if i wont gain any more mpg's then all i really want is sound. so this seems like it will do the trick for a low price. also, is there anything that i would have to watch out for if i choose to install this or any other exhaust? ive taken a look under the truck and noticed some lines (possibly brake?) on the driver side above the axle, is it ok to just route a pipe right there?

thanks a bunch guys!
