Cool few volant/ram air questions.....

first, does anyone have the volant w/ the ram air scoop underneath?
opinions on it? can it be used if i have off road package?

second, anyone ever thought of plumbing ram air around the left side of the radiator area to the volant?

finally, anyone ever thought of a ram air hood that dumps into where the screw on lid of the volant box would be? (lid removed of course)

i was sittin around the other day and bored and started contemplating such things. let me know if you think thats a dumb idea...im not sensitive.

Re: few volant/ram air questions.....

It's not a dumb idea. I've done it and monitor the difference of IAT (intake air temp) from the OBD II port using a "Scan Gauge". The IAT is never higher than 5 degrees of the ambient temp. Without it, the IAT at normal cruise is always over 110-120 degrees.

Here's a few pics and check some out too at my website. Links are below my SIG

Re: few volant/ram air questions.....

I also utilized the "fender" intake and used a pipe to scoop air further forward into the fender.
Next set of pics to complete the project:

Re: few volant/ram air questions.....

And this is how I replaced the windshield washer reservoir:
Used a kit from Pep Boys and moved the washer electrical fittings to this reservoir and placed it behind the new air box. Works fine though not OE looking. I may eventually "fab" a fiberglass reservoir and use the OE reservoir cap.

Re: few volant/ram air questions.....

thanks for the info and pics gr8titan......
did you notice any marked increase in power or economy after installing the ram air in your titan?
also, i was wondering if you put any water drain in the ram air, or is it up high enough you think that it's not required.
now i wonder to myself, to go around the radiator like you did, or come from the top with a scoop down into the top of the volant box....... i guess the fabrication would be a bit easier around the radiator, but im not sure if thats the most efficient way to do it....taking bernoulis principle into account.
thanks again for any info you can help me out with.....

Re: few volant/ram air questions.....

thats cool Pi...I assume you mean the one that comes from volant?
Does the intake port for that take the place of a foglight or a towhook?
I am wondering if i can use it since I have O/R package and foglights.......

Yes, there is noticeable increase in power. Like I mentioned earliler, I have a "Scan Gauge" and I do monitor (thru the OBD II port) the IAT. The IAT is measured by the stock sensor and this info is fed to the ECU. Of course, the colder the Incoming Air Temp, the ECU compensates to maintain the ideal A/F ratio. This is not just to confuse the ECU (just like the "snake oil" diodes) but REAL lower IAT. Most of the time, the IAT is never over 5 degrees of the ambient temp.

I wouldn't recommend this system is you like to go off-roading into streams.

The frontal area of the intake acts as a funnel for the incoming air. Try experimenting with a funnel using this animation of "Bernoulli's Principle and notice how the funnel creates faster flow. Observe the changes in pressure, flow rate and velocity changes in direct proportion to area changes.
Hope this info helps you in your project.
