Update on DIY airbox mod and Amsoil Eaa-104 air filter.

Today I wanted to see how the Amsoil air filter was holding up compared to the OEM filter. Each filter was in for about the same time, that being about 4.5 months each and 2300 miles each. The OEM paper filter was in before the airbox mod and the Amsoil shortly after the mod. The pictures clearly show the difference in air travel. It is very hard to see in the pic, but the Amsoil filter has a slightly darkened center, where the OEM, before the snorkel mod, was dirty only on the bottom corners. Actually I'm shocked at how clean the Amsoil filter looked tonight. Oh, I did the snorkel mod with a red hot knife back in May.

I did the samething, but I first used the K&N filter. I just put in the Amsoil filter and now see how it works compared to the K&N far as airflow and performance. I didnt use a hot knife, I used a bandsaw at my old job-aircraft mechanic.

I hadn't heard of a "snorkel" mod. I'll have to go search now.

The red hot knife worked well, under 15 minutes. You don't have to disassemble anything. It was all done with the box still mounted in place.

It's not called the snorkel mod carb. Search for
"do it yourself airbox mod"
or maybe
diy airbox mod

that's where you can find it. I've done it and I like it so far.

You probably won't be able to tell much of a difference. If there is a gain, it's minimal. If your check engine light isn't on then you probably don't need to reset your ecu.

The gains are minimal but present. Were you expecting gains like a super charger?

I know I am stupid, but what is red hot knife? A super heated knife or a tool? I thought about a cut off tool or dremel??

Just an ordinary kitchen knife that you heat till it's red hot.

Re: Update on DIY airbox mod and Amsoil Eaa-104 air filter.

Tonight I pulled the Amsoil filter out to clean it with a vacuum since it has been in for 10 months. It still looks new, but vacuumed it anyway. I took a pic before I cleaned it. With the airbox mod, you can easily see how well distributed the airflow is.
