TruTrack Questions

Just a couple questions on this aftermarket setup.

Can this be done on a 2wd 06 SE?

Anyone know of a good differential shop in town (Arizona-Phoenix area) that can do the work?

This probably voids some kind of warranty correct?

And lastly west coast differentials is the place to get it from? Anything I need to tell them to make sure I get right parts??

Going to be doing some serious towing at the beginning of October and I dont want any problems off road... For 700-800$ this is a modification that Im definately interested in for peace of mind knowing two wheels are working rather than one...

1. Yes... but verify... don't just take my word.

2. Ask around... and also look on the internet for a local Jeep/4x4 club. They'll be able to hook you up with a reputable shop. An experienced diff guru should install at approx $180- $200 + diff fluid.

3. It does not void warranty. Search for.... I think its Magnuson Moss Act? Someone help out here. lol

4. I'm sure you can probobly get it somewhere else now but most folks got one from Ed at West Coast Diff. He'll know what parts to get you.

If you swap your OEM diff for a TrueTrac you may want to consider going the extra yard and have the axle seals replaced. I had my TT installed at around 10K miles and did not have the seals replaced. I consider myself lucky and hope they hold up. I catch myself looking underneath the truck every now and then to see if anything is leaking.... cause I drive 'r hard! lol.

I think most (if not all) folks have had it installed without the seals replaced... but how many are still under warranty???.... I couldn't say. If you have problems it could potentially turn into a major headache in working with a Dealership (IF you have problems afterwards). Just some food for thought.

Please don't let what I am saying scare you! I totally dig my TT and think all Titans should come with something like this as a standard.

I say GO for it.. but IT IS YOUR Titan.

Re: TruTrack Questions

If you need a good installer in PHX drop me a PM. I had mine done a couple months ago by a local diff guy doing side work at his house for $200 plus gear oil. All the shops I talked to at the time wanted $400+

Re: TruTrack Questions

I just picked up my SE-06 3 weeks ago, and have 1200 miles on it already. I opt'd for the extended 6/yr 100,000 warranty, so just want to make sure what nissans going to void. Ill ask for the seals as well. I understand the gears wouldnt be covered, but maybe the rest of the seals should be??

Dunno about a backyard mechanic. I want to make sure it goes in correct and everything is setup right as far as backlash/play and that everything just lines up right. How many miles have you got on the trutrack? Any problems? Can you tell a difference in towing or on mudded fire roads?

Re: TruTrack Questions

I would recommend ordering carrier bearings when you order the TT.

Re: TruTrack Questions

He does gear and diff work all day long at a real shop, he just does side work at his house. I found him after asking some racers I know who did their gear work.

I have about 5k on it so far. Instal was perfect, no problems. I noticed a huge difference in corner speed and int he dirt and deep sand.

Re: TruTrack Questions

The truck is going in this Saturday to Desert Rat up on Peoria for some wheels/tires. Ill ask sales guy in there about seeing if they can do it, (since they are a 4x4 shop) or know if someone that can do it. Ill definately keep your guy in mind if I cant find a shop to do it.

Re: TruTrack Questions

Feel free to use DR if you want to pay too much. Keep in mind most 4x4 or gear shops around here have never cracked open a titan diff.

Good point!

The 4x4 shop I took mine to in Topeka, KS never seen a Titan diff either. They took a little longer than they thought (and did not charge me for it either), but eventually got 'r done.

If anyone is KS wants to get this done take it to "4X4 Land". I was their guinea pig.

Re: TruTrack Questions

Haha... Desert Rat knows me pretty well... not sure if thats good or bad. I had a 2000 Frontier, which I had lifted, and done a lot of work to. They had to do some welding work, suspension and other modifications for me. I ended up buying a set of tires/wheels from them at the time too. Funny they remembered me a year and a half later and was asking where my Frontier was, oh and that lift took them 2.5 days to do... they just dont get Nissans like you said. However, they are doing the leveling kit for me, and since the titan came out, they have been seeing more of them lately they said. Im sure your right about the differential, but doesnt hurt to ask... Ive just had my share of home garage mechanics in the past, and all of it was bad... How long did it take him to do yours?

Re: TruTrack Questions

I dropped it off one evening and was ready the next. He is good enough that I will be having so all the gear work on my race truck.

Im betting DR quotes no less than $350 but closer to $450. Just a prediction, I could be wrong.

The 3.36 are factory gears avaiable on the big tow or off road package. Non BT and non OR are 2.94.

Re: TruTrack Questions

Well I guess its a crap shoot as to what I get. west coast differentials said they had one left, and asked what the gearing ratio was and they said it would be between a 2.72 to 3.73...

Now I am correct that our speed sensors are on our hubs right? Or will I have to take this to a speedo/tac shop to have everything adjusted out as well?

Re: TruTrack Questions

The TrueTrac for the Titan does not replace the gears. There are no gear sets available for the Titan (yet I think).

So whether you have non big tow (2.94) or big tow (3.36) the TT will not change that. If you have the 2.94's and want to change to big tow gear set you will need to swap the entire rear end like RB did.

The same TT unit works for all Titans.
