Installed Magnaflow exhaust system after previous muffler swap

Before anyone says there isn't a y pipe included with the magnaflow system. I knew this before the purchase. Another titan site had an individual who had done a ton of dyno runs with different exhausts with his truck and the magnaflow had done the best with a cold air intake and stock exhaust manifolds.

Previously I swapped in a Aem Brute force intake and decided on a just swapping in a magnaflow muffler a 5 x 11 part number 12586. I found it to be slightly louder than stock but not excessive. It came to life when you step on it. I didn't like the fit after the muffler and decided to get it welded that was when I made the mistake. Had a friend weld it and he didn't notice that the tailpipe rotated when he took off the band clamp and was touching the spare, so I needed to replace the tailpipe since grinding or cutting the welds woldn't work. I was planning on just replacing the tailpipe but only found two places local that could mandral bend the pipe. One place was out of the pipe due to the size and the other one had a rude horses backside for a owner. Let's just say it's not worth getting into.

Decided on the magnaflow stainless system since I got it for 365.25 including delivery. Came in less than a week installed quickly. Instead of the 5 x 11 muffler it had a 5 x 8 and is louder by a bit. It's surprising that most people find the magnaflow exhaust system for the Titan one of the least loudest systems.

My impressions driving are that before the muffler swap I could hear the cold air intake sucking when I stepped on it. After the muffler swap I could slightly hear it but usually if I reached the point where it's loud the exhaust would overpower it. Slight drone with the muffler swap not bad thou. Didn't lose any bottom end at all and thought I might have picked up a little. That was important for me since I tow a large boat. With the exhaust swap it's much louder than the muffler swap was and I kind of expected to lose a little bottom end torque since back pressure was lost and the titan loves backpressure. But since the swap about 400 miles I've noticed a few times where I broke traction starting off at a light or stop sign. It seems to have picked up some bottom end torque or there's a increase somewhere on the bottom end that I haven't gotten used to. Slight drone more than the muffler swap. It's louder than I was hoping.

If your planning on using the truck, you can't beat a muffler swap. Not much louder than stock, but use U bolts and not band clamps if not welding. If you want to be one of those people that wants their truck noticed then the exhaust swap is good. It's a little over a 1/2" larger than stock from the muffler 3" over the previous 2.5". I haven't noticed a increase in fuel mileage since the swap at all and actually think I lost a little. More air going in. Also people want to race you.

Re: Installed Magnaflow exhaust system after previous muffler swap

I was going to do just the muffler because I heard the catback system was pretty loud but ended up getting the zoomers which came in today right after I got to work(wouldnt you know) but after recearching alittle more Im afraid the zoomers is going to be a long way from quiet also.Regardless of what it cost if its to loud youll see it for sale here shortly. Thanks for the right up sounds like a replay of shaileys findings on exhaust.

Re: Installed Magnaflow exhaust system after previous muffler swap

Great writeup, far more intelligent than many I've read that only look for noise=performance. Yea, Shailey did an amazing writeup at CT. As you see below, I am a MagnaFlow Muffler only user and very pleased. If you haven't, do the 2 degree and consider the TBS as they have main effect at low RPM's. I "try" to drive at 3000 or less.

Re: Installed Magnaflow exhaust system after previous muffler swap

I only did the write up because of all the people who choose the entire exhaust system over a quality muffler swap. I had initially purchased my muffler after reading shailey's post as he was the individual that I was referring to who did a ton of dyno runs. I also don't believe people realize how much louder the entire magnaflow system is over a magnaflow muffler swap.

Skeet good luck with the zoomers system. I recall a few post about them most people were happy with the sound. I just couldn't justify paying what they wanted for a system that was going to rust. They do have a nice tip and I recall individuals buying them for 125 to take care of the drone on the banks system.

If people think the magnaflow isn't loud I could just imagine the sound from a banks system. It's funny how when you get older you don't want to get noticed when driving. In my youth I could never sneak home late since my parents heard my 67 Camero about 2 blocks before I was home.

Would you have considered just the muffler loud?

Re: Installed Magnaflow exhaust system after previous muffler swap

Just swapping the muffler wasn't loud at all. It might be because it was the 5x11. It did come to life when you stepped on it but compared to the entire system it's night and day sound wise.

Hey Baran,do you have a part number of the kit installed?"
This sounds exactly like what I am looking for.
Thanks for the great post

Nissan Mike

For the single exit magnaflow exhaust it's part number 15848. It's stainless 304.

Aperformance

Thanks for letting me know that the zoomers is now stainless. I recall them posting that they were going to offer one but at the time their price was high.

Re: Installed Magnaflow exhaust system after previous muffler swap

I am running 30" body x 36" total lenth 3" in/out Magnaflow part number 12641. It is moderatly loud. Trust me it will get louder. It has moderate drone but only in the drivers seat. Works great teamed up with the Fram boost. If I did it again I would try the XL series mufflers from Magnaflow. 30x36 3" in/out part number 13741. Gotta love the lifetime warranty. Coming back from Lake Cushman down I-5 and driving to work this week have almost 400 miles on this tank. Just turned 12K.
