40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
So I just came from the muffler shop and I can get a new system installed for what seemed like a really good price... First let me tell you what I asked for and what he said:
I said "I want a new full cat back system, flowmaster, dual pipes"
He said that his system "basically cut off the muffler from the stock system, put in the new muffler, and new pipes on back"
Now I've never had exhaust installed, so i'm not sure that is the same thing...
Then secondly he said he could do that with a 40 series for 200 + tax and with a 70 series for 286 + tax... which seems really too good... so that makes me wonder.... if it's not the same full cat back system I'm finding online for around 450 bucks.
So please help me before I make a mistake and don't get what I want.
And should i go dual rear exit, or side exit? I will tow sometimes, but probably about max 6 times a year. It is a travel trailer I will tow.
And lastly, which do you guys think? I want a deep, agressive sound, but not obnoxiously loud where I wake up the neighbors, but still sounding good when I stomp on it. I was leaning towards 70 series... but any input on that would be appreciated. (Going back to listen to clips right now hehe)

You installed the 60 series, good luck:

Provides a nice mellow exhaust tone outside for a performance sound that’s not over-the-top loud
The Flowmaster 60 Series Muffler uses exclusive Delta Flow technology for superior scavenging and minimized interior resonance—keeps the ride quiet inside
Also an excellent muffler for sport-compact cars and other small displacement vehicles

Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
The big difference between a cat back you can buy and what this guy is selling, is that catbacks include a new Y-pipe, where as his system would be installed aft of the factory Y-pipe. Most people will argue that replacing the factory Y-pipe makes you lose low end TQ this is why systems from Magnaflow and a couple of others don't include a Y-pipe, they are bolted on after the factory unit. I just installed a true catback (replaces the factory Y-pipe with a new larger one.) and I can say that there is no difference in low end power from what I can tell.
Also, aftermarket systems generally are made from Mandrel bend tubing which keeps the diameter of tubing constant through the bends. Most muffler shops use a crush bend or pinch bend tubing which will lessen the diameter of the tubing in the bends. This has been attributed lower exhaust gas flow through the bends because of the restrictions.
I have never been a fan of muffler shop exhaust systems, they never seem to fit right (not that all aftermarket catbacks do either), and the sound is never on par with what I am looking for. But this is only my opinion though. For cost purposes I am sure this place would work fine for you.
I have never been a fan of Duals out the back either. Mainly because I am coming from the diesel trucks, and if they come out the back and you tow, your trailer or whatever gets a nice coating of soot on it. I prefer duals out the sides, or Duals out one side. I also like a nice single exit system like I have now.
Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
I wanted to go with the full cat back american thunder flowmaster.
when i contacted the local shop/distributer, they hemmed and hawed and said, "yeah they heard of it and did one, but what we mostly offer is using the stock Y pipe and welding on flowmaster series muffler of your choice, it keep the low end and good overall sou8nd and performance"
but i wanted something tuned from the factory, not muffler shop technology.
andlooking around, most folks here Arent no exhuast experts, so they are satisfied with the muffler set up and think they got a good deal.
telly ya what, they are charging "$375 plus tax and install = $425+ for that shyt! Makin a killin i'd say on the average joe househusband!
skrew that, i just said to mysef, "sef u better get a real deal cat back." So i went with the stainless banks and the rest was histry.
Some say the
banks even outperforms some of the header set ups.
now at every turn of the throttle i encounter the green eyed monster that has no clue what i got going on!
BANKS ALL THE WAY, BABY!!

Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
I took my titan into a very reputable exhaust shop to have it looked at. I told him I wanted it to bark so a 40 series flowmaster dual outlet was installed. I already had the intake at the time. Heres the thing, AFTER the Y pipe upon the mechanics suggestion he changed the pipe from stock to 3" into the muffler and dual 2.5" out into 4" tips. Let me just say that is sounds amazing. It is very loud but the power gains were considerable. My friends and I find ourselves amazed everytime we drive the thing. I whole heartedly recommend this setup. I would shoot you towards a 50 series for the volume issue because the thing is noisy but glorious. Dual out the back cuts back on resonance vs single side exit. Just some input, but I will try to upload a sound clip for you guys, it sounds rediculous, I get comments on it every couple of days.
Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
Well, they had to order the 70 series for me... I'm still kinda in debate, like I said I don't want to wake the neighbors when I roll in at after 2 am, or when I'm leaving after 11 or 12, but I want to have a nice deep aggressive sound, but I'm still in debate of how loud is too loud. THe 50 delta presents another nice option. I better make a decision, if anybody has a link to a 50 delta with duals I'd really appreciate getting a listen. I've heard it in the stock exhaust, sounds good, but I'm gonna have duals.

what intake is 85 bucks and whats that chip?? one of those ebay chips? lol...
um ok, well back to the thread...I got the 40 series with dual pipe going straight back...1 inlet 2 outlets... and mine starts after the factory Y (because of that loss of torque, etc) it sounds great and truck runs great...I wanted mine LOUD though so I also installed an electric cutout before the muffler...sounds even better but I loss a lil mid-power I think...
Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
I would do the DELTA FLOW 50 series. The DELTA FLOW series is FLOWMASTERS best work to date. I would also do it from the muffler back like the shop wants too. Just make sure you ask the grade of piping they are using to make the tail pipe. Is it stainless, or aluminized? You don't want cheap piping that is going to rust out fast. Also ask if they do mandrel bending or kink bending. Some good shops have a mandrel machine. I did the JBA and have been nothing but happy. Everyone that hears it is in awe. It was about 400 and is easy to install yourself. It also includes the Y pipe and is stainless. JBA also makes a header that is smog legal to go with the exhaust. Good luck.

Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
Got it installed today, did the 70 series, got 3.5 tips, dual side exits, it has a great rumble and sound, but it's not obnoxiously loud. It's quiter than stock idling, has a nice pur under mild accleration and has a nice throaty roar to it when you put your foot in it. I'm liking it. Infact cruising on the freeway I think there is less drone, as well, so that's nice too. Puttin all the windows down and driving tho, it's got a nice sound, and it sounds like a beast when i start her up. I'll try to get some clips or video sometime within the next week or two, but try is the keyword!
Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
I believe I got the single 3 in dual 2.5 out, but center, instead of offset. I think that's what I got. I'm not going to pretend I know alot, I said I wanted a 70 series, and duals, and they ordered it and put it on, then I got the 3.5 tips and dual side exits. lol. I just know I like the sound, and they seemed to do good work, and my buddy whose a bit more knowledgeable said "This is the guy, the only guy, I would have do mine" so that's where I went. He's done several vehicles for people we know and everyone has been happy with him so, that's where I went and what I got.
Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts

Re: 40 series or 70 series flowmaster and question about exhausts
Ive been thinking about the 40 or 70 series flowmaster mufflers. 2 questions, What do you rate it on a scale of 1-10 and does the product void the warranty?
