Where does the Volant CAI suck its air from? Is the box open to the side of the fender? After reading other threads there was'nt any gains from taking the cover off, correct? I know, I know, whats up with 20 questions.

I've been looking at the Volant and the Injen. The Volant V3 has the extra ram scoop available at additional cost (of course). TitanBlue on has directions for adding a custom air scoop to his AEM BruteForce (the other forum site "club"). Still researching how all of them work - like how water and mud are kept out.
Maybe one of the gurus will give us a tutorial on all this...
Most intake get the majority of their air from the stock fender well location. Volant have an optional scoop but that will only come into effect at higher speeds.

Ah Ha! I found it! I'm surprised the washer fluid container fits back in there. Man, I hate drilling holes in perfectly good and new stuff! Oh well, sometimes you got to do what you go to do. And this mod will work with ANY box?
I've haven't heard good things about that ram-air scoop for the volant. It would be much more benifitial to do the ram-air thing mentioned above but you do have to perform some surgery.

I will tell you this...the volant uses the existing hole in the fender to suck in air...
Sounds good, good gains, BUT it doesn't keep mud out!! Matter of fact it probably sucks more in!
You must get into a lot of mud. I've never had a problem with anything getting in the fender well. There's a plastic lining that helps keep stuff out as well.

I do see a lot of mud...hence the name. The plasic liners are fine for keeping mud out as long as you are in forward motion. If you happen to get stuck and need to rock the truck in reverse the mud will sling into the opening of the liner and right into your engine bay and the CAI. If you take a look at the front of your liners they are open(cut short). This is not the case on an XE truck, just the SE and LE.
The Volant Filter does nothing to keep water out of the intake manifold. I have sarurated my intake with muddy water and my sensor has been caked with mud. Volant does sell a water proof "sock" for about $50 more that can help repel some of the water. But I dont think it would help much if the box is half full of water and the filter is sitting in a bath! I'm still looking for and answer besides a snorkle.

Thats about the time you start to panic after you realize you just drove 20 miles submerged in water and you start to bail it out! Forget about the camera....
