twin flowmasters

Has anyone ran duals and used 2 mufflers, like 2 40 series flowmasters? Also, I saw what looked like 2 cats on each side of the exhaust, then a muffeler shop told me that the first on from the engine is the cat and the second one is a resonator, has anyone heard this? If so, will it hurt anything to remove the resonator or will it help any? My original plan was to remove the resonators run true duals, run it to the one side, put in a H pipe or X pipe(which I havent figured out the difference yet, help anyone please) then go into 2 40 series flowmasters and run the 2 pipes out the back with 3.5in. x22in. stainless steel rolled tips. Any input on my plans would be great, positive or negative. Thank You.

Re: twin flowmasters

When I had my f-150 I ran a set up like your describing except I left the cats alone. I used 2 mac mufflers from my mustang and and H-pipe, it sounded great. If I might sugest to use Spintech mufflers instead of flowmasters. The 2 I would look at would be the sportman street($85) or the prostreet($100). They sound awsome and you wont be dissapointed. I put a single sportman steet on my Titan and I love the sound.
I opted to leave the cats alone b/c I didn't want to risk the chance of the check engine light coming on.
Hope this helps

Re: twin flowmasters

thank you everyone for your help, did you tell any difference in removing the resonators? I just dont want to hurt fuel mileage or horsepower, I am aiming to increase both.

Re: twin flowmasters

I didn't touch anything on my Titan except for the muffler. On my F-150 I didn't touch the cats or resonators. I didn't notice a loss in power on the Ford or Titan.
On my old 2002 Mustang dyno numbers proved to have an increas in HP and torque with exhaust. stock dyno was 221hp, and with 2 hi-flow cats and 2 spintech mufflers, cold air intake and bigger throtle body it put down 248HP and 290lbs of torque.
I know its not a Titan but hope this helps.
