HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

I'm a little baffled about these #'s. My highest HP with the 40 series was 218. After changing to the 70 series BigBlock 2, it went a lot further up than I thought it would... but not much lower 1/4mile ET's. Anybody know maybe why?????(The red trace is with the 40 series and black trace is the 70 series)

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

probably has something to do with BMEP (Brake Mean Effective Pressure) which just means what you are losing down low your are gaining on the top giving you similar ET's, just my $.02

It gained on low end and top end. I just figured the 30hp would give more than .2secs. I guess not. I need about 40 more FREE hp to get to mid 14's. I think I'll start a "FREE H/P" thread for us cheap SOB's

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

while we are on the subject, your saying a muffler swap from a 40 to a 70 flowmaster gave you these gains? did you give your ECU plenty of time (couple of hundred miles) to compensate for the different flow of the muffler?
i am curious cause im getting ready to put a flowmaster 40 Dual in Dual out true dual setup on mine...

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

I'm an idiot! I just noticed the weight difference!!!! 150lbs MAY have given higher HP and Torque #'s. I'll fix that and try it again

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

so, you are saying that the big block 70 series dynoed more hp and torque than the 40 series? I was just fixing to get the 40's, but now I am confused.

I left the shop and went about 5 miles and ran it. Been a couple of hundred since then now. Let me fix the weight thing and try it again b/4 i say much else on this. I'll post GTech chart later this week. BTW, I'm running single exhaust, ending right behind the muffler.

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

That's a huge difference in HP just for different mufflers. Hopefully on Friday, I'm switching my Flowmaster 70 to a Magnaflow 5x8x18. Just got delivered tonight. I just wanted something a tad louder without increasing any drone.

IT shows net hp, not RWHp. You can estimate RWHP close to what a real dyno run would show with a "calculator" on the GTech website. Entering the coefficient drag/ frontal area in ft/2 and figure out RWHP. For the TITAN it's about 85.5 PLUS what the GTECH shows. Torque and ET's are accurate though. 150 lbs HEAVIER will increase the HP/Torque, has no effect on the times. We'll see...

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

Heres a run, not a full 1/4 mile, with enough info for peak HP and torque. SAME WEIGHT this time.

(again, black is 70 series and red is 40)

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

I need to read the manual on my Gtech. that's pretty cool on the chart and stuffs. When I got my Gtech, I open the box, got the Gtech and power cord out and haven't open that box since.

Re: HP/Torque gains with Flowmaster

i.m not buying that a 70 series makes the titan that much more powerful, unless its because teh computer hadnt learned the 40 series yet, i just dont get it, can it really make that much of a difference...
