Replacing stock pipes?

I currently have a Flowmaster Super 40 on my truck with the stock pipes. If I were to change out the pipes for some 3" pipes, would I get the same or nearly the same performance as a Gibson, Volant, etc. exhaust system? If I can, should the Y pipe be exchanged out also? Or will the straight pipes be enough? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Replacing stock pipes?

Bro...I would change everything from the Y back(including the Y)....I just put the Volant on last Wednesday...all of the stock pieces look small / restrictive...shoot basically like junk compaired to that pretty polished aluminum beast...I went Volant because I have a Volant intake...and it isn't as load as some of the others like Banks....I'm pretty sure the Banks / Volant / Gibson / Borla all have similar benefits...it basically comes down to the tone you want....there are a lot of good sounds clips of various exhausts on this site...if you got some time listen to a few.
