I think I'm missing too much low end.

I haven't been in any other Titans, so I'm not sure if it's just me or not. It just seems like below 3K RPM's I don't have the torque I should. I can't even spin the tires much at all, but I haven't been able to spin them since I put on the helper springs. I started out with my homemade intake and TBS. That gave me more pull over 4K RPM and didn't seem to pull any low end. Next I put a SuperTurbo muffler on the stock exhaust and again, my top end pull was better but nothing gained in the low end. Revently I added a Helix TBS and JBA Evol exhaust. I was expecting some better low end grunt, but I don't think I gained anything. I have to say when the tach hits 3K RPM's the truck feels like I just hit a small nitrous shot and pulls like a freight train all the way to 5K.

My only thought is that my homemade intake is inhibiting me. What I have right now is a stock intake connected to a stock MAF tube that was cut right at the air box. I then slipped on an AEM dryflow filter. It's the same one that comes with their CAI. I haven't built a baffle yet, but it has been in the 40;s to 50's outside and I don't think that intake temps are going to be a problem right now. Let me know what you all think.

3 RPM's? Three? Or 3,000 RPM's...

Even a industrial engine turns more than 3 RPM's.

LOL, I meant 3K RPM's.

Hey Mike....how many miles do you have, are u broke in? Did you reset the ecu after each mod? If you drive your truck like a granny it will perform like a granny! A few WOT runs will wake a Titan up.

I have 6800 miles on the truck now. I have never reset the ECU.

I went by the school of thought that I should let it learn the mods over time. Maybe I should try that. Anyone have a link to the procedure?

I'd have to say that my truck is not driven like a granny. My wife drives it mostly and even though she is not light footed, she never goes WOT. When I drive it I mash the pedal at least twice per trip.

You can just unhook the battery for a few hours or you can try this:
How to:ECU Reset,Throttle & Accelerator Position Learning

Re: I think I'm missing too much low end.

Well, I performed the ECU reset and all other learning procedures in the link. We'll see how that goes. I noticed that right off the bat I can now spin the tires enough to get the spin light going. I still feel that instant kick at 3K RPM's.

Re: I think I'm missing too much low end.

Most performance parts will lose low end. The gain is in the mid and high range. That is where performance lies. That is why most big turbo's lose a sh*t load of low end but 5krpm and above, it runs like you just got hit from behind with a Semi truck. Most shift points drop to 5krpm and that's where you want your next gear to be at. Gotta give up one for the other.

Mikey your homemade intake is definately inhibiting you, change your intake to a volant or injen and you should be good to go----Have fun

Re: I think I'm missing too much low end.

The Titan has a major and very obvious flat spot in the fuel curve between 2 and 3 grand. My truck feels flatter than my bike does at 5 grand which is where its flat spot is. These flat spots increase fuel mileage and help on EPA testing and ratings. I am not an expert, but I can tell something has been tampered with when accelerating WOT and I feel the blatant slowing of the tach needle.

Re: I think I'm missing too much low end.

Do the timing advance.

I kind of went backwards on the mod list from what you have, but to me the advance was the best mod, especially for the low end torque.
As far as performance mods I went S&B CAI, timing advance then JBA EVOL.
For me the intake + advance = lots of low end torque. I lost a little with the JBA, but it smoothed out the power below 3k rpms and added to it in the 3k + rpms. Before the JBA my truck would launch or burn rubber easily till it hit around 2500 rpms where it seemed to die out.
My exerience my be a little skewed though due to living in CO where the air is a little thin.

Re: I think I'm missing too much low end.

I'm working on getting a timing advance done, so I'll see if that helps before going out to buy an intake. I still have to build a baffle for my intake and that may help.
