Timing Advance

Im going to the dealer for my first oil change this Friday. I plan on asking them if they will do the timing advance for me. Are these the instructions I need to show them?

Warm up vehicle.
On CONSULT 2 screen choose ENGINE
After communication with Convertor will display a bunch of choices.
Press WORK SUPPORT
See more choices, press TARGET IGN TIMING
Press UP x2 for 2 degrees, correction which you should be able to see.
Press UPDATE.
Now press BACK
On the menu screen find IDLE AIR VOL LEARN.
Press, and perform to correct your idle since you just raised it 75rpm with timing advance.

Re: Timing Advance

Looks good to me. I'm sure some other folks will chime in to verify.

Good luck convincing the Dealership (*cough... BASTARDS!... cough* j/k).

Re: Timing Advance

Personally, I'd wait on the advance until my truck is broken in.

Give it 5,000 miles/2 oil changes to work the kinks out before you beat the Shiet out of it.

Your dealer knows squat. It will hold forever unless battery power is disconnected for many hours or a major engine malfunction occurs. IAV learn is done immediately after the timing adjustment and will not alter timing in any way shape or form. The advance adds HP and torque.

Re: Timing Advance

I was within my first 12000 miles, and had them do that along with the camber bolts due to lane wander. Nothing but Excellents on the rating form later, lol

I only remember you saying you were going to call every dealer to get it done. I don't remember you saying exactly. I'll have to give them a call myself!!!!

Re: Timing Advance

Im running with 87 oct. now just because I filled up before the timing was advanced. The service writer did suggest that I run it with 89 or 90.
