im gonna buy a new muffler but only got about $300 to spent so im goin to a muffler shop. i dont wanna lose power and i want it loud but not too loud. besides changing the muffler what else should i change to improve the sound and performance? what would you suggest i get?
Some members have just swapped out the stock muffler for a Magnaflow or Flowmaster. They run anywhere from $60 to $150, and usually only go about $200 installed. Check some sound clips and see what you like.
I swapped the stock muffler for a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow as have several others here. I also added a 4" stainless tip to finish it off. Sounds and runs great! You can save some additional $ by buying the muffler on-line and taking it to a shop to be welded on. The shops tend to sell the mufflers at or close to retail...
One of the other members posted a video of the same setup. I don't have the minimum # of posts to insert a link, but the title of the thread is "OEM exhaust, Flowmaster 50 [video]". Just do a search for that and the thread will link to the video.
15" will be fairly loud, but they should be able to just clamp it on temporarily so you can hear what it sounds like. Don't let them weld it until you've tried a couple just to be sure!
I thought the 18" or even the 22" were the preferred options. Be careful. They may just be trying to sell you one that they have in stock. Not always the best option.
It sounds awsome! It has a very deep tone. It is reasonably quiet while cruising (still louder than stock) and it turns heads when I step on the gas. Start up is pretty loud too. I love it and plan to stay with it.

will there be more drone in the 15''? is there a big difference in the loudness between the 15'' & 18''?
I haven't heard the "15, but I imagine it is pretty loud considering how loud my "18 is. I didn't want it to be so loud that my son in the back seat was getting blown away.

I put the 22" 2 in/2 out on my 07 and it's perfect for me. I think the stock muffler on 07 is a little louder, more rumbly than 04 - 06 and the 22" is slightly louder than stock. It has a nice rumble at start and good sound at heavy acceleration. It's perfect for me - for whatever that's worth.
Dawgbonz idea of having them clamping it and trying it is excellent! Wish I would have known that before I bought mine - I just got lucky.
I believe the longer it is, the mellower it is. Length usually equals more baffles. Shorter would be louder, IMO.... I could be wrong., but that's logical.
