Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
I am a new owner of an 06 Titan. I am looking at a TBS, CAI and dual exhaust. I want the best of both worlds. I want performace first, then I want a good rumble like the good old days. But, I work in a prefessional environment and want the boss to still be comfortable going to a meeting or lunch. I am comparing K & N and Fram Boost on the CAI. FlowMaser on the exhaust and not sure on the TBS.
How about some help making an older guy enjoy the new toy and not go too far. Ideas are wanted...none too far out. Anyone close to Simpsonville SC, e-mail me to possibly get together and share ideas. Especially if you have mods that I can view and hear.
Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
Since I'm no longer a puppy either, IMO, go with a Manaflow exhaust and an Injen intake. That combination put out some of the best dyno numbers by far. A TBS is going to whistle, not my cup of tea. I ran with a Flowmaster 70 on my Titan and changed it to the Magnaflow, night and day difference with Magaflow winning hands down.

Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
how loud do you want your muffler? i have a flowmaster 50 series delta flow and it rumbles pretty good, w/o being obnoxious or too loud in-cabin. (i'm actually wanting it to be a bit more obnoxious, and i'm thinking of either a FM 40 or a Banks soon...). i have a volant intake and it's awesome. paid $500 altogether for these two mods and i think they work well together~tho i haven't stepped up to a dyno.

Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
I can't say enough good stuff about the Volant CAI / Volant exhaust set up...the exhaust isn't as loud as some, but has a real nice tone... when you want to make it bark, it barks...at highway speeds (75 - 85mph) all most no drone at all.
Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
check out the Stillen exhuast, it has a nice roar but no to loud as far as being uncomfortable with the boss. The magnaflow, borla and BB are a lot louder and are known for there drone. Stillen also has them for $100 off right now.
CAI.. I am happy with the Volant but it does get loud under WOT.
Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
Get flowmaster 40 series! Lol. Is there anything louder then those things? Usually when I drive on a mall underground parking-lot I hear A LOT of alarms go off if I push it just a little bit more then usual =)

Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
If you want less than optimum performance flowmaster is ok...baffles will only slow down exhaust velocity much like a stock muff....str8 through like magnaflow/banks/jba is the way to geaux...
Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
The 40 seems like the way that I would want.....but got to be a big boy. Do you think I would loose the performance in the FM magnaflo. Does all TBS whistle about the same or are some worse than others. Heard one today and not a problem. It was on a chevy V-8 but was there. Whistle was not really noticable. Thanks to everyone......keep it coming. If I do this it has to be right the first time. Kig in college.
Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
I would also suggest looking at the stillen exhaust. Also look at their intake. The k&n and the fram will be loud because they are metal and create resonance. I wouldn't bother with a TBS. The intake is designed to take all turbulance out of the air so the intake will kill your TBS' work.

Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
Although I have the stock exhaust and can't say how things will sound in the cab, I did pull a white Titan over just the other day to ask him what exhaust system he had.
The truck sounded pretty dang good, and it was loud, but not like a set of glasspacks, and didn't sound like every other truck with a Flowmaster(and I like Flowmasters...)
the only way i could describe it, was "bad-a$$"...
He said it was a Magnaflow cat back system...but there was NO stealth to this system!

Re: Wanting to Mod performance and the boss still want to ride
I spent the day shopping and visiting muffler shops, parts houses and even a NIssan dealership. I was ready for the K & N cold air and I had a Carquest Auto Parts guy share with me the expectation of about 11 HP from the CA. he said that I could get 7-8 from a K & N filter. I looked at the filter box and am convinced that I can square offf the intake tube from the fire wall and add the K & N filter with increased air flow and keep about $225.00 in my pocket.....Anyone looked at this?
