2 Degree Advance

I had the 2 degree advance done on my truck, if I disconnect the battery and clear the ecu does it keep the 2 degree advance or lose it?
I thought it would keep it but I read in another thread that It might get cleared out?

Anyone know for sure?

Re: 2 Degree Advance

There is no exact time. but about 4 to 5 hours and it will usually clear the advance. Just 30 minutes to an hour, and I never heard of it being lost.

Re: 2 Degree Advance

Its not a know time range...
I checked one that had battery disconnected for 2days & was still there..
I did a ECM Reprogramm on my own for a poor a/c function (TSB) for 04-06 Titan/Armadas it cleared the +2 T/A..

Re: 2 Degree Advance

Wait a minute...resetting the ECU following the standard procedure outlined in another thread here CLEARS the 2* advance? - CRAP!!!
I just paid $41 last week to get the advance done, and this week, after reading about the benefits of clearing the ECU (relearning throttle, etc.), I did it...so I lost the 2* advance?

D@MNIT!!!

Re: 2 Degree Advance

I couild be wrong, and I should/did know better some time ago. But I don't think clearing the ECU also clears the Timing Advance. I think they are seperate parts of the memory. I think somebody will step in to clarify/confirm this or refute it. Don't worry just yet. Where are you located? Hint hint, see my sig. below. er, above in my first post. LOL. I have Cipher, I can help you if needed.

Re: 2 Degree Advance

Wow...didn't realize I didn't input my 10:20...I'm in UT, thousands and thousands and thousands of miles away from MD...well, maybe not that many thousands, but still a very long way.

I REALLY hope I don't have to drive 65 miles and pay another $41 for the 2* - but I will if I have to!

On a side note one of the little 'tricks' I used to do with my Camaros and Vette is to drive it to the top of our mountian (roughly 11,000 feet elevation) and do the timing and adjust the air/fuel mix for up there - they ran like cut cats down at hometown elevation of 5800'...so, I headed up to our summit and performed the ECU clear and it *seems* to run better down home - any chance my 'butt dyno' is lying and it's ALL psychosomatic?

Re: 2 Degree Advance

Doing so would adjust with thinner air, and cause it to run lean in normal elevation. Damage to the Cats would be the primary increased danger, and possibly valves.

Adjustments should be done at normal elevation for best safety of the engine. I don't know how much differance there is, but that should be an accurate understanding of what you're doing.
