Is this the new style S&B tube? pics attached

I just received my new S&B intake 20 minutes ago. I want to make sure S&B sent me the updated tube and gaskets with it before I put it on. Thanks in advance, I'm anxiously waiting to install it if I have the correct tube and gasket.

They sent me a replacement, and that looks like it! Install away, you're going to love it!

Re: Is this the new style S&B tube? pics attached

Thanks for the replies! Ok, got it on and took a test drive. OMG, I was actually startled when I gave it 1/2-3/4 throttle. I had the airbox mod on and thought that was loud, but this is like holy shyt loud...lol. I'm an old guy, I don't know if I can handle this. I just can't imagine the Volant being louder than the S&B.

When you nail it, it sounds like a reverberation up front. I thought that was because the one corner lightly touched the fender corner, so I took a hammer and screwdriver and bent down that corner. Nope, that didn't change the reverb sound. I guess that's just the way it sounds.

The big test will come at the 1/4 mile. The sound it makes feels like 50 HP...lol.

Re: Is this the new style S&B tube? pics attached

Speaking from experience, the Volant is SLIGHTLY louder. I think the overall sound of the S&B is better, and the velocity stack on the filter gives it a little extra punch.

Give it some time and you'll get used to it!

Take some weatherstrip and put it between the S&B and the truck, this will help with the vibration. Then take it for a test drive. Then take some window A/C foam and close in the sides and top. Then go take it for another test drive. You should be able to see an increase in power.

During the box install, I used a square piece of linoleum, cut to the size of the base, to act as a pad. Previously, I remembered reading about a few that vibrated, so this worked ok so far. I'm looking into putting some foam between the box and fenderwall, but that gap is pretty narrow and most of the incoming air should be the cooler air from the wheelwell. I recorded a couple of short clips, but they don't quite capture the lions roar...lol.

Re: Is this the new style S&B tube? pics attached

I had some foam 1" pipe insulation on hand, so I used it to insulate the top and two sides. The insulation is fire retardant, water resistant, and had a nice slit on the side that made it very easy to roll and wrap around edges. My only concern is if it eventually starts crumbling and those crumbs get sucked into the filter. Anyone have any comments on that?

Did you do any test runs. And as for the pipe insulation getting old, just replace it every other oil change.

I pulled out the insulation, just didn't look right. You're right, four 3' tubes are like $4, so that is not a problem. I have software to measure performance runs, but I did not do any comparisons yet. I'm still working on the reverberation sound at a certain acceleration rpm, you know what I mean. I'm pretty sure it's the fender vibratiing, acting like a drum, and that might not be curable.

Re: Is this the new style S&B tube? pics attached

I'm done with adjustments now. I have taken the intake on and off five times now trying to reduce that reverberation. I ran without the lid, with the lid, tight filter, loose filter, insulation as a shock absorber, different angle with the tube, pad under the box, no pad, and all that changed nothing...lol. I'm absolutely convinced now that the momentary reverberation is just a huge sucking noise that is amplified by the fender opening. Hmmmmm, maybe I can try running without the fender, nah it wouldn't look right...lol.

Re: Is this the new style S&B tube? pics attached

I have the Volant and mine hits right around 2800-2900 rpms. Loud vibration also. I was hoping the S&B wasn't was bad. Let me know when you figure it out

I'm done trying to eliminate it...lol. It is just the nature of the beast. For all I know, it might be the filter itself, acting like a reversed saxophone. Don't get me wrong, it's not that terrible, and only lasts for a second when you romp the throttle. Will I go back to the stock intake? That's out of the question, the S&B stays on.

I hope you don't tow anything... I had a Volant on my '04 and when pulling a hill it would drive you out of the truck it was so loud. Now I run an AEM on my '05, much better, it's loud but doesn't have the Reverb and BOOM of the Volant.
