question about s/c and exhaust

i finally got my stillen s/c and jba shortties payed for through my guy and he is suppose to order it tomorrow. my question is, what type of exhaust are you s/c guys running? my friend/performance shop owner told me he wanted to do 4 inch cat(highflow) back, he didn't say what kind of muffler but he showed me a truck he had just done and it sounded sick. it was a harley-davidson f-150 with a vortech charger and 4 inch exhaust with (and this is the kicker) a diesel muffler. he wants to do the same with my truck. is it okay to use a diesel muffler granting it sounds good?

oh yeah the entire exhaust will be jet-hot coated.

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

I wouldn't recommend doing a 4" exhaust. You could potentially be sacrificing a pound of boost. You need some back pressure.

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

There are a lot of variables that come into play when designing an exhaust system.

Pipe length, muffler design, muffler length, bends, bend location, pipe diameter plays a big role, but it's not always the most important.

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

4" is HUGE if from cats back BUT if that's at the rear tip that's fine.

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

I would 2.25" piping all the way to the muffler, then 3" piping after.

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

You want 3" all the way through, no resonators.

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

imo the best you could do is 2.5" high flow cats and mandrel bent b-pipes.. then get the jba catback, like others have stated this isnt a domestic motor, you will achieve nuthing by going to a 4" exhaust cept making ur pocketbook lighter..

Re: question about s/c and exhaust

I just kept the stock 3" exhaust and put an original 40 flowmaster with a 3 1/2" stainless tip on it and my truck sounds great in my opinion. I may go back and put duals on it but it looks pretty sleek going out at a 45 behind the passenger rear tire. But then again I don't have a bunch of money to spend on mods. I am just happy having a titan.

That's too much. The stock exhaust on that truck is 3.0" up to the muffler which is plenty. You will want a muffler with a lot of interior volume though. Keeps the drone down while cruising and it won't pop (diesel muffler would provide that volume). I'm thinking about welding a pair of Magnaflow ovals together for a DI/DO or use a 3.0" y-junction for a SI/DO. It will depend on if I can find a 3.0" SI 2.75" DO muffler with enough volume though.
