14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

Alright Guys.....

I know I want to do the Magnaflow muffler swap but I can't decide on the 14" or 18"

I need your help on this one.

1.) First off, does either create more horsepower?
2.) I know the 14" is louder, but how much?
3.) Does one sound better for the Titan than the other
4.) Anyone have sound clips / videos
5.) Is anyone happy / unhappy with theirs?

I want my truck to be loud, but not too loud (especially at idle). Most importantly I want it to be fast, so question 1. may be the kicker.

Thanks for the advice!!!

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

I have had both the 18" and the 14" magnaflow muffler swaps. I now have the JBA though. If you want to feel a little more power go with the 18" muffler. I felt some low end loss with the 14". The 14" is not that loud really well compared to the Banks which I had on my 04 Titan. The 14" is loud but not too much as I could have a conversation with whom ever I was driving at the time.
Here is the 18" sound clip. http://media.putfile.com/magnaflow07titan
This is the 14" sound clip.

VK, That is exactly what I was looking for. YOU ARE DA MAN! So now i'm really leaning toward the 18" b/c you said the magic word power but man that 14" sounded sweet. I could'nt really hear the 18" that well, but I think its just my crappy laptop speakers. Hmm, decisions decisions....

Hmm, well if that's true, I like the sound of the 14" better. Anyone else want to chime in on this one?

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

I would think the 14" and 18" will yield similar gains. Magnaflow uses the 18" in their catback system.

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

i installed the 18" last friday, so i guess tha i can't be much help....i thought that the 14" had different sized inlets and the 18" matched up correctly, but i'd bet a good tech could make up the difference, and i am not an expert at all...but i believe everything that suddenurge says, he knows his stuff

If in the end all you want is speed and power jump over all this and go for the JBA exhaust and get it right the first time.

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

I recently had the 18 inch as well as 3 inch pipe from the y pipe back. My titan doesnt seem much louder. But defintely alot deeper sound. As for power gains cant give you numbers but i can defintely feel the diference. Am very happy and definelty recomend the 18"

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

As was said already, the 14" and 18" make the same power. They are a flow-through design, so the only reason there would be a power difference is if the holes in the pipe that let the material absorb sound caused some turbulence that somehow managed to restrict flow. Barring that, there's no reason either one would perform different than the other.

I have the 18" on my Titan and I'd say it turned out just about perfect. They also make a 24" that is supposedly close to stock in sound level. There is drone, but for whatever reason it attacks the driver more than anyone else. My wife drove my truck for the first time today, with me in the passenger seat, and as soon as she got on the freeway on ramp she commented on how loud it was, but she had never said anything about it while as a passenger. Sitting in the passenger seat I have to say it sounded AWESOME. You could hear the exhaust but there was very little drone.

My only complaint is under hard acceleration I do hear a "popping"/"braaap" sound that matches the exhaust pulses and it bugs me a little. Can't hear it with the windows up, though.

18" is the way to go, 14" would probably be a little too loud for my taste.

Anyone have a 24" or heard one that can comment?

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

I have the 14" installed on my truck and i couldnt be happier, honestly i would like it to be a little louder but it sounds awesome, not too loud and not quiet and there is absolutely no drone what so ever in the cab. i also cut off the exhaust tip just after the last exhaust hanger so you cant see the exhaust. buy from performancepeddler.com thats where i got mine from for $68 shipped to my door and paid $45 to have it installed, good luck.

oh i also get that same popping noise that yahooligan is talking about, its because magnaflow has a similar design to a glass pack.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Now I don't have to wonder if something is actually rattling in my exhaust.

Re: 14" or 18" Magnaflow Muffler Swap?

That popping noise must be unique to the 14" because the 18" does not do that, at least on mine it doesn't.
