Re: STS Turbo

Wait, let me get this straight. This STS system will be designed to put the actual turbo under the motor?

No. On the sts systems, they are designed to go under the vehicle in the rear. So if a titan had one, it would probably be around the spare tire location..

Tell me exactly what you mean by in harms way? The only way i see this setup being in harms way would be if you had a lifted truck and went mudding or some serious rock crawling and looking at the picture of your truck i dont think you will be doing any of that, and as far as water getting in there they dont have problems with them being on cars which sit much lower than your truck. this company is well known for their remote turbo systems and if there was an nice and easy way to tuck it into the engine bay for a decent price it would have already been done, like leadsled said the biggest challenge will be the tuning, if they were smart they would sublet the tune out to uprev.

it's personal preference. If i am paying potential thousands of dollars from start to finish on a turbo system, I do not want it under my truck by any means. Call me crazy, but i'm quite sure a rock or something on the interstate isnt covered under warranty. Im not the least bit worried about tuning, Uprev will squash that. I really at this point dont want aynone else tuning my truck besides Uprev. Sorry but i pass on the remote system for under my truck.

Re: STS Turbo

I'm going to agree that I wouldn't want anything like that underneath. I use my truck to cross a lot of small rivers and that and water wouldn't mix well.

Re: STS Turbo

I wonder how long the R&D would be. I have access to another vehicle, so I could go without my Titan for awhile.

Re: STS Turbo

Looks like they make a snorkel kit for the filter for most off road applications.

Re: STS Turbo

OK, here is what I know. The manager of their tech group, Chris Martinez, and I have been conversing but mainly about my STS kit for my 2006 GTO. I bought a ued STS kit, and I am working out the bugs for my GTO.

Yes, they are developing a turbo kit for the Titan. They plan to use Unichip for the tuning. I gave Chris the info on Uprev, including their phone number and web site. This is potentially great application for the Titan since the boost will not come on until about 3000rpm. This will reduce the driveline shock and help with the transmission issues. I told Chris of the problems some have had with the transmissions.

As far as what is the "best' kit for the Titan, well that will take some thought and options. As an example, an intercooler is not standard on an STS kit. The intercooler option for a GTO is about $1000. You will have turbo options as well. The bottom line is that you can easily put $6K to $7K into an STS kit.

Also please rememeber that these are remote turbo kits. The turbo mounts close to where the muffler is now. You will have to account for water and other debris getting into the turbo if you do any serious off-roading. The remote oil pump and return can be a hassle as well.
