Exclamation Pros and Cons of 2 Degree Advance?

I have saw more than enough ppl that have this mod done. Myself and a few buddies are wanting to get this done, mainly me at this point due to the little lost with the Banks Monster set up, however we are concerned about the negative effects on the truck as I don't want to mess up a $32K rig. Can you guys shed some light on this. Also can a novice install without any issues. Thanks in advance from us here in Central PA.

It won't hurt anything. The ECU will always retard or advance the timing according to what you're driving style is and the fuel you're feeding it. The advance is also within Nissan specs and will not kill your warranty. I believe that there is actually a +/- 5* of timing that can be changed from factory settings without hurting your warranty.

So - the pros are that once you add an exhaust and an intake you'l really feel it. The cons are it's hard to find a dealership that has the proper Consult III that will do it for you without charging an arm and a leg for shop time.

This mod is one of the easiest and one of the best out there in my humble opinion. Go for it!

Re: Pros and Cons of 2 Degree Advance?

My gas mileage dropped.

I have stock everything (engine wise) and it's only noticeable from a standstill. I gave TitanBlue $20 to do it at one of the meets. He's from the Baltimore area. I don't know of anyone in central or western PA that can do it for ya other than a dealer.

With the 2* timming advance, there is no such thing as CONS, only PROs.

Re: Pros and Cons of 2 Degree Advance?

Well, the con to me was that I think my mileage dropped. I'm not one to watch it like a hawk mind you, but I do think it did drop a little. That, in and of itself wasn't significant enough to make me want to reset my ECU though! If it does ever get "lost" somehow, I'd do it again. The improvement it gave far outweighs whatever small drop in mileage it might have caused.

Is the 5* even possible?? I thought that if you set it to anything but 2* it would revert back to 2* only.

Am I mistaken?

No, you are absolutely correct! It will not take a 5* hit!!

It will only go as high as 2!
