There is drone as would be expected but it is very tolerable to me and you have to realize that I came from the Zoomers, one of the quietest systems.

Look at this tread for the in cab videos of highway testing and you may get some idea.

Nismo exhast review, Stage II, installation and noise level tests

Congratulations and let us know what you think when you get it on there.

Re: Nismo Cat back Install

I came down with Nismotitis yesterday afternoon and was standing in the garage 14mm in hand and truck in the air when the UPS guy pulled in the driveway. Two hours later I had the Nismo intake and exhaust on and ready for ignition. Long story short, the intake was more of a pain in the a$$ to install than the late Volant but went together good. The exhaust was a piece of cake but a little louder than I expected, though a completly different sound; closest to a Borla I believe. The JBA with flowmaster 70BB I removed was a little quieter. The exhaust did smooth out my torque curve making it easier to launch, and decreased the 5200-6200rpm flat spot. 0-60 is still 6.3 and some change but my runs should be more consistant. I don't find that it has much drone at any speed like the y-pipe systems. It has a distinct low exhaust note that is proportional in volume to the gas pedal position. None of that 1700 rpm moan with no seperation like my Volant had. Lastly, I guess Jeff got the great discount on the systems cause they were all missing page 4. hehe Thanks again Jeff, you increased many SPG.

I'm actually surprised your 0-60 remained the same but that's good news for those concerned with the low end.

If you want to pick up a little more mid and top end, install a Dr Gas Xpipe where the exhaust straightens out, it will also smooth out the exhaust note and should decrease the in cab noise level somewhat.

Re: Nismo Cat back Install

Papa, I assume you have already put in an x-pipe; if so, how far in front of the mufflers do you reccomend; or did you put it right after they straighten?
As far as the 0-60, conditions are always different and I did not run my old system and nismo on the same day; both in the cool am air though. Did you expect my 0-60 to go up or down. Honestly, my truck does not run much different. Thanks for the advice on the x-pipe.

Question Re: Nismo Cat back Install

Papa, I went and looked at the Dr. Gas X-pipes; did one of their standard x-pipes fit or did you order the custom Xscream. If so, what specs did you order yours to and how did it fit. Also did you order direct from Dr. Gas.
Thanks

Re: Nismo Cat back Install

IIRC, Papa_D doesn't have an X-pipe on his Nismo. He had one on his Zoomer setup. Correct me if I spoke out of line, Papa_D, but I believe he is "thinking" about hacking up his beautiful brand new Nismo system to do it, but hasn't as yet.

Cool Re: Nismo Cat back Install

I hate to chop on the Nismo but I do agree an x-pipe would smooth it out. Hell, I wouldn't be on my 4th exhaust system if I could leave them alone.

You are correct my friend, I did the Dr Gas Y collector on the Zoomers and liked it very much.

I do plan to hack into the Nismo to put in the Dr Gas Xpipe because that should make the system as good as it can be performance wise and I will like the sound of it as well.

I haven't measured mine yet due to some back problems but I will take some calipers and measure the distance between the pipes, the pipes themselves, add those dimensions together, subtract one pipe width and end up with the distance from center pipe to center pipe which is what Dr Gas needs to construct it.

I will order direct from them, I wouldn't know where else to buy it anyway and I don't need some middle man getting the dimensions wrong.

I don't know as I would change anything other than the addition of an Xpipe on this system unless you wanted to quiet it down with some resonators.

It is darned near perfection as far as I'm concerned and so is the Dr Gas Xpipe so the two items should compliment one another nicely.

That being said, I wouldn't touch this system unless you can find someone worthy to install it because it would be a shame to have a hack job on such a fine exhaust system.

That buildup is from whatever the inside of the pipes and muffler are coated with from the factory and should burn off after a few heat cycles.

I wish I had video of the first time I drove mine, I came off the expressway and I actually stopped the truck and looked underneath because it was smoking like a house on fire and I thought the exhaust was touching a brake line or something.

It took me a few seconds to realize what was going on but after I thought about it and talked to another member, it all made sense.

I would say that if you have no leaks, you are good to go and that the residue will dissipate after the exhaust has gone through a few heat cycles, enjoy it man, I love mine.

thanks for the info, after a week of having the exhaust i seen no problems. i noticed that it was burning off after a few days, but now no bulid up. i love this exhaust also , barely any drone in the cab. can't wait for some headers to open this baby up.

Re: Nismo Cat back Install

Started with a volant, pulled the tailpipe for a turndown, pulled the volant muffler, put on a flowmaster 50SUV and eventually put the tail pipe back on. Sold the volant system and put my stock system on with a magnaflow Y-pipe, then 18" magnaflow muffler, then turndown.....it was a hack job and loud as hell. Threw the stock back in the attic and put on the JBA and concluded that I hate glass packs, so I left the JBA system as is and clamped in a Flowmaster 70BB (same length as K&N that came with JBA). I was pretty happy with this setup and soon onequick06 will be enjoying it. Like all tuners, I need to tweak and play so I ordered the Nismo. I wanted a true dual with outlets on one side and the Nismo had it. In the past, all the vehicles I've had with a true dual, the installation of an h-pipe or x-pipe has improved sound and performance. If I put it in and don't like it, I will weld the nismo pipe back in where I cut it out. Papa may beat me to it as the feed is broke on my welder. I wish Nismo would have just incorporated one.

I'm glad you like the exhaust and you may want to consider tuning with those headers but I know uprev is not available for the 08's yet.

I thought I read some people were running them without tuning and doing fine but I can't be sure.

It's great this exhaust is getting good reviews and keep us posted on what you think after the new wears off. I've had mine for several weeks and my opinion remains the same, I love it.
