Nismo Cat back Install

hey guys, i was just wondering if there is a anything i should be aware about when installing this exhaust? the reason i ask this is, is that i got my system in yesterday, and i was so excited that i wanted to install it right away. after checking that all the parts where accounted for, i went right to work. ripped out the old exhaust with no problem, but then the install was pretty tricky. it was tricky because, when i was reading page 3 of 4 it says follow steps 6 - 11 which i couldn't find cause i had no page 4. i couldn't drive my truck to work wiht no exhaust ( even though it would be pretty cool ). and i couldn't call my dealer because they were closed already. so i just looked at the picture on the first page which is pretty slef explanatory. got the exhaust in, torqued down the bolts, checked for leaks and everything runs fine. but when i was showing my friend my exahust today, we noticed some white and brown sludge bulid up form the tips, and we couldn't figure it out. it started to burn off when it truck was at operating tempature, but it didn't look like normal condensation. so i just was wondering if page 4 of the install stated insrtuctions other than, putting everything in its place, and tighting everything up. other then that i am very happy with this exhaust.

Re: Nismo Cat back Install

usually with a new exhaust you get an almost sweet burning smell... not sure on the sludge but as long as you bolted up everything with the gaskets inbetween you should be fine. There is really no way to mix up the pieces as they wouldn't fit or hang right

Re: Nismo Cat back Install

Sorry about the fact I didn't mention this in my write ups but if you saw them, you would know they were plenty long enough, lol.

That buildup is from whatever the inside of the pipes and muffler are coated with from the factory and should burn off after a few heat cycles.

I wish I had video of the first time I drove mine, I came off the expressway and I actually stopped the truck and looked underneath because it was smoking like a house on fire and I thought the exhaust was touching a brake line or something.

It took me a few seconds to realize what was going on but after I thought about it and talked to another member, it all made sense.

I would say that if you have no leaks, you are good to go and that the residue will dissipate after the exhaust has gone through a few heat cycles, enjoy it man, I love mine.

Funny i was wondering the same i got mine today , so when I came home ofcourse i took it out of the box, and i seen no page 4 also... what is the torque of the bolts anyways? also I have 2 small dents in one of the mufflers of course I wont be looking at them , but is that ok? Im not sure how mufflers are built internal not sure if that would affect anything in there?

I wouldn't sweat the dents as long as the internals of the muffler are in tact and not rattling around when you shake it and the welds are undamaged it should be fine.

I couldn't say if I had a page 4 or not and I torqued till I felt comfortable with the tightness using a fairly short wrench so I wouldn't snap off the bolts.

I hear ya on that, there small dents I just wasnt sure about the internals how they were, but no rattling or anything coming from it so im not worried.

Im a ACFT Mechanic so when i hear torque i ask, but my arm is calibrated to germen specs goodNtight lol

I installed mine last week. The instructions said to torque all bolts to 38-48 ft-lbs. One of my mufflers had a couple little dings in it also. No big deal, it sounds sweet.
